With competitive total rewards, performance-based bonuses, and a clear path for career growth, you’ll have everything you need to develop both now and over the longer term.

The Opportunity

PICTON Investments is seeking an Associate to join the Trading Strategy group within the Investments Team. This is a role for a recent graduate with a quantitative background who wants to apply technical skills directly to investment research and strategy.

You will work alongside analysts, portfolio managers and strategists on thematic, quantitative, and macro research — building the tools, screens, and analytical frameworks the desk uses to generate and test investment ideas. The role offers unusual breadth for a junior seat: macro markets, quantitative analysis, derivatives, and thematic investing.

We are looking for someone with demonstrated ability in mathematics and computer science, strong problem-solving instincts, and the drive to learn quickly and work independently.

The expected annual base salary range for this role is $80,000 to $100,000 with final base salary determined based on experience, skills, education, and internal equity. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for variable compensation, including participation in the Company’s discretionary bonus program, subject to applicable plan terms.

At PICTON Investments, being employee-owned means we take care of our team and offer opportunities for top performers to participate in our equity ownership program over time. Eligible employees get access to a full benefits package, including profit sharing, health and wellness coverage, life and disability insurance, paid time off and holidays, learning and development programs, and more, many of which are fully covered or subsidized by us.

Responsibilities of the Role

  • Build and maintain tools, data pipelines, and processes for quantitative, fundamental, and non-traditional analysis of equity and macro market trends
  • Support the development, testing, and refinement of trading strategies and thematic investment frameworks.
  • Own and improve internal technology assets related to trading strategy
  • Monitor markets, industry developments, and political/economic events; synthesize findings into clear, actionable research for the desk
  • Provide support across trading processes, risk management, and the internal technology development cycle
  • Build effective working relationships across the Investments Team and with external counterparts (sell-side research, data vendors)

Qualifications and Experience Required

  • University degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field — new graduates and candidates within two years of graduation are encouraged to apply
  • Very strong proficiency in Python and SQL; advanced Excel; familiarity with APIs and version control (git) an asset
  • Genuine interest in financial markets; willingness to pursue the CFA designation
  • Relevant internship, co-op, and/or substantive project experience in asset management, sales and trading, or quantitative research is a requirement
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to communicate findings clearly, in writing and verbally
  • Demonstrated ability to be a team player
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently, while contributing effectively to a small, collaborative team as well as the broader Investment Team at PICTON.
  • Professional, organized, and adaptable in a fast-moving environment
