Job Description

This position will report to a Director, Assurance and Advisory (“A&A”) and will be a key team member providing independent advisory and assurance services, specializing in technology, data governance, and IT risk management. In this role, you will be focused on maximizing the value delivered by the A&A Group across a wide range of groups and strategic projects selected via a risk-based approach.

As an Associate, Assurance and Advisory (A&A), you will provide support on audit and/or advisory engagements, working collaboratively with colleagues and our internal partners to help instill risk and control discipline in their core activities. You will have the opportunity to learn from and provide actionable recommendations on all CPP Investment’s most critical initiatives and you will provide experience, technical knowledge, and leadership to drive strategic objectives and evolve the perceived value of A&A across the organization.

Accountabilities:

Audit Planning & Execution

  • Plan and execute internal audits focused on technology and data, including IT infrastructure, cybersecurity controls, data governance frameworks, and emerging technology risks.
  • Identify IT-specific risks and evaluate controls to determine their effectiveness in achieving CPP Investments’ objectives and compliance with policies and regulations.
  • Utilize data analytics tools and techniques to analyze large datasets and present insights effectively.
  • Develop and maintain open lines of communication with management and other key stakeholders (e.g. external auditors), by working collaboratively and constructively;
  • Present and discuss audit findings and recommendations to the engagement lead and relevant stakeholders during the course of the audit;
  • Support the production of informative, concise and value adding engagement reports and/or management letters, as well as reports to the Audit Committee.

Relationship Building

  • Collaborate with engagement team members to effectively execute assurance and advisory activities as required;
  • Foster and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders on assigned engagements to ensure that they receive optimal value from work delivered. 


Qualifications

Education & Professional Certifications

  • Undergraduate degree required, preferably in an accounting / business or finance related discipline.
  • Relevant professional designations are strongly preferred (e.g. CISA, CISSP, CRISC, CDPSE, etc.). CPA, CIA, CFA, or similar designations are a plus.

Professional Experience

  • 3-5 years of progressive experience in IT Audit, Technology Risk Management, Data Governance, or Cybersecurity, ideally within financial institutions or investment firms.
  • Strong knowledge of IT systems, data management frameworks, and the risk implications of complex technologies.
  • Experience with audit methodologies for technology and data-related processes, including ITGC, application controls, and cybersecurity assessments.
  • Proficiency in data analytics tools (e.g., Python, SQL, Power BI, Tableau) and exposure to emerging risks like cloud computing, blockchain, and AI is a plus.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to simplify and present complex IT concepts effectively.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills; proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Adaptable to changing business needs, with attention to detail and a commitment to continuous learning.
