Role Overview

Clipwire Games is growing and looking for an Art Director to help shape the visual direction of current and future mobile game projects.

This role is ideal for an experienced and hands-on art leader who’s passionate about mobile games and free-to-play experiences. You’ll work closely with Product, Design, and Development to define and execute a strong, cohesive visual vision, ensuring our games are visually compelling, performant, and aligned with both creative and business goals.

You bring strong artistic taste, clear communication, and the ability to guide and inspire a team while remaining closely involved in execution. You're also excited about the role AI can play in modern art production, championing its use to push quality, consistency, and efficiency further than traditional pipelines allow.

Key Responsibilities
  • Define and maintain the overall visual direction and artistic vision for assigned game projects
  • Collaborate closely with Product and Design to align visual direction with gameplay, player experience, and business goals
  • Lead concept ideation for new features and products, translating early ideas into visual direction
  • Lead, mentor, and provide feedback to artists across disciplines (UI/UX, 2D, motion, etc.)
  • Ensure visual consistency and quality across all in-game content, features, events, and live ops updates
  • Create or oversee high-quality concept art, mockups, UI flows, and visual prototypes
  • Guide the development of UI/UX that is clear, intuitive, and optimised for mobile devices
  • Work with Development to ensure art is performant, scalable, and efficiently implemented
  • Review and approve assets before integration, ensuring they meet quality and technical standards
  • Support live ops content creation while maintaining visual freshness and consistency
  • Spearhead and champion AI use and integration across the art team, actively identifying new opportunities to apply AI in the creative process
  • Build pipelines and workflows that leverage AI tools to improve quality, consistency, and efficiency across the art team
  • Train AI models on existing or new assets - created by yourself or the team - to generate production-ready assets
  • Develop processes that improve efficiency and reduce friction in day-to-day art production
  • Stay current with AI and art advancements across the industry, bringing relevant developments back to the team
  • Help improve art pipelines, workflows, and documentation
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Strong experience in game art direction, preferably in mobile or free-to-play games
  • Excellent visual taste with a solid understanding of composition, colour, typography, and UI/UX principles
  • Experience leading or mentoring artists and providing clear, constructive feedback
  • Hands-on experience with generative AI tools for art production (e.g. Scenario, Stable Diffusion, Midjourney, ComfyUI) and familiarity with concepts like LoRA fine-tuning and model training on custom assets
  • A track record of introducing new tools or processes that improved team output or quality
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across disciplines
  • Hands-on experience creating or reviewing UI, 2D art, and visual systems
  • Understanding of mobile constraints, performance considerations, and asset optimisation
  • Proficiency with industry-standard tools (e.g. Figma, Photoshop, Illustrator, Unity)
  • Experience working on live games or live ops content is a strong asset
