Reporting to the Manager – Climate Change, Corporate Actuarial, the Climate Risk Analyst will support Definity’s Climate Center of Excellence (COE) by monitoring exposure natural catastrophes, modelling the physical and economic impacts of climate change on insurance and investment portfolios, and contributing to climate‑related regulatory reporting. The role collaborates closely with ERM, ESG, Finance, Claims, Pricing, Underwriting, and Reinsurance to advance climate and catastrophe-related risk initiatives.

What can you expect in this role?

  • Support catastrophe/climate change initiatives such as monitoring, researching impacts of various perils (e.g.: Flood, Wildfire, etc.) on business operations
  • Assist with the strategic goals of the company such as limiting catastrophe risk and assessing viability of business decisions from a Risk Management standpoint
  • Support the regulatory reporting related to catastrophes & climate change
  • Collaborate with other Actuarial teams such as Reserving, Planning, Pricing, and Analytics to solve complex problems and provide recommendations to management
  • Work with external departments such as ERM, ESG, Claims, Finance & Reinsurance on joint projects
  • Identify opportunities for process efficiencies, and recommend changes

What do you bring to the role?

  • University degree in Mathematics/Statistics, Environmental Science, Actuarial Science, or related field
  • 2–5 years of relevant experience in an analytics‑focused role. Experience in catastrophe modelling, GIS, or climate risk assessment would be an asset
  • Experience with scientific programming (Python/R), spatial analytics (GIS), machine learning, databases, cloud analytics, and data visualization tools[DC1]
  • Strong communication, organizational skills, and attention to detail
  • Adaptability and the ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced environment

Salary Range: $51,300 - $94,400
