What you’ll be doing
The Advanced Analytics & AI team is the central hub of data science and AI expertise within CIBC and is leading the way in applying best practices in predictive science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and Generative AI across the enterprise. Reporting to the Director, Advanced Analytics & AI, the AI Scientist will contribute to the design, development, and deployment of innovative AI and GenAI solutions focused on document intelligence, automation, and operational efficiency. This role will support enterprise-wide initiatives across business domains including operations, fraud, finance, risk, and retail banking. You will work closely with senior AI practitioners and cross-functional teams to build scalable, production-ready AI solutions that solve real business problems and create meaningful impact.
At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role you’ll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you’ll spend 1-3 days per week on-site, while other days will be remote.
How you’ll succeed
- Apply AI & ML to solve real-world business problems – Utilize your knowledge of machine learning, Generative AI, and statistics to support the development of scalable AI solutions and automation capabilities.
- Build and enhance GenAI applications – Contribute to enterprise AI initiatives involving document intelligence, OCR, NLP, prompt engineering, LLM workflows, and AI-powered automation solutions.
- Collaborate across teams – Partner with senior AI practitioners, technology teams, and project stakeholders to support the delivery of innovative AI use cases across the bank.
- Support AI product development – Assist in building reliable, maintainable, and production-ready AI applications within cloud-based environments.
- Continuously learn and innovate – Stay current with emerging AI technologies, techniques, and trends while contributing fresh ideas and intellectual curiosity to the team.
- Contribute to impactful enterprise initiatives – Work on cutting-edge AI use cases that improve operational efficiency, productivity, and decision-making capabilities across multiple lines of business.
Who you are
- You have hands-on experience or exposure to LLMs, prompt engineering, NLP, OCR, document extraction, or AI automation through coursework, co-ops, internships, research projects, thesis work, or side projects. You can demonstrate foundational knowledge in Machine Learning, Statistics, Artificial Intelligence, and Generative AI concepts. You have experience with Python and modern AI/ML tooling and frameworks. Exposure to cloud platforms such as Azure is considered an asset. You have familiarity with AI/ML libraries and frameworks such as Pandas, Scikit-learn, XGBoost, Flask, FastAPI, or similar technologies.
- You have a degree in. Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Natural Sciences, Psychology, or another STEM-related discipline. A Master’s degree is considered an asset.
- You are a problem solver. You possess solid problem solving skills and solid judgement to provide input and advice to senior management. You have attention to details and can apply critical thinking to inform decision making.
