The Corporate Actuarial Advanced Analytics team brings together actuarial expertise and data science to develop, maintain, and integrate analytical solutions supporting P&C claims reserving, while improving core actuarial processes and strengthening model monitoring, governance, controls, documentation, and operational sustainability.

As an Actuarial Consultant, you will lead complex actuarial analyses and process-improvement initiatives and integrate advanced analytical solutions into recurring reserving processes.

How you will create impact: 
  • Lead actuarial investigations into reserve adequacy, emerging claims experience, and financial-result drivers.
  • Develop and evaluate improvements to reserving methodologies, assumptions, processes, and reporting.
  • Partner with data scientists and Business Intelligence colleagues to develop, validate, implement, and monitor predictive reserving solutions.
  • Apply actuarial judgement to model outputs and performance metrics and communicate findings, limitations, and recommendations.
  • Improve reserving workflows, financial-booking processes, documentation, controls, and handoffs.
  • Support model-risk governance, internal-audit requirements, and cross-departmental validation.
  • Lead medium-to-large initiatives and coach colleagues.

To join our team:  
  • Post-secondary degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science, or a related discipline.
  • At least five years of relevant P&C actuarial experience.
  • Strong knowledge of P&C products, actuarial methods, emerging trends, and best practices.
  • Advanced knowledge of SQL, SAS, R, and/or Python.
  • Experience applying actuarial judgement and leading complex analytical initiatives.
  • An ACAS, FCAS, ACIA, or FCIA designation, or progress towards one, is an asset.
  • P&C reserving experience is an important asset.
  • Experience with predictive models, monitoring, governance, automation, or financial reporting is an asset.
  • Experience with ClaimCenter, Azure Synapse, ResQ, and/or Arius is an asset.
  • This role primarily works with non-francophone groups and teams outside Québec and requires proficiency in English. The essential non-French duties cannot be reassigned to adjacent or other team members.

Salary information

“Expected salary/hourly range $83,774 - $133,700+” (min-max, full range) 

Salary placement

“The salary amount for the successful candidate is determined by Co-operators in its discretion and will vary depending on several criteria including but not limited to: local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualification, experience and education.” 

Incentive/Variable pay 

“Employees may also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn additional compensation tied to individual and/or business performance, or other business metrics.”
