Role Title

Actuarial Analyst, Capital Management

Purpose of role

The Actuarial Analyst is a key member of the Capital Management team within Corporate Actuarial and works closely with various actuarial and finance partners in a dynamic and challenging environment. The role supports quarterly regulatory capital reporting (primarily LICAT) and contributes to capital management initiatives and analysis.
This role offers exposure across key aspects of capital management, including LICAT, RBC, Solvency II, and excess deployable capital. You will work with senior team members to support the quarterly capital cycle, including capital sensitivities and forecasting, and gain experience with actuarial and financial modeling tools (e.g., AXIS and Excel-based models).
You may also support responses to regulatory requests (e.g., impact studies and data calls) as regulatory capital requirements evolve.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities
  • Support preparation of the quarterly LICAT regulatory capital filing using AXIS and Excel tools, including checks for reasonability, explanation of movements and supporting analysis
  • Support forecasting of the LICAT capital ratios in advance of quarter-end
  • Assess the impact on the LICAT ratios from actuarial basis changes and provide assistance on various capital management business initiatives under consideration
  • Provide inputs and support for material to be presented at the quarterly Capital Management Committee meetings, including any support for ad hoc capital-related initiatives and projects
  • Provide LICAT capital input to partners (e.g. pricing initiatives or ORSA related analysis) with guidance as needed
  • Support the ongoing development, maintenance, and model governance of LICAT models and calculators within AXIS and Excel
  • Support the internal and external audit of the LICAT calculation
  • Being innovative and supporting the implementation of process improvements to drive ongoing value from capital reporting
  • Keep the documentation current and ensure the documentation is appropriate and consistent with professional actuarial standards and in compliance with all applicable legislation
Key Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, science, business, economics, or another relevant field
  • A minimum of one to two (1-2) year of actuarial experience in a life or health insurance company an asset
  • Progress towards Society of Actuaries (SOA) exams (or intent to pursue) with the longer-term goal of achieving the FSA & FCIA.
  • Exposure to the financial services or insurance industry, including insurance products (e.g., life insurance, annuities, segregated funds) and Canadian and/or U.S. valuation and solvency frameworks, is an asset
  • Experience with various computer systems. These include the valuation system (e.g. AXIS), Microsoft Office software (e.g. Excel), and databases (e.g. SQL Server)
  • Working knowledge of relational databases and programming languages
  • Strong time management skills and ability to multi-task and respond to evolving organizational needs
  • Strong personal accountability. Results and impact oriented
  • Excellent report writing and communications skills

Salary Range:

$59,000.00 - $84,700.00

 

The actual base salary for this position will depend on several factors, including job-related skills, experience, and education. In addition to base pay, eligible employees may participate in a discretionary variable incentive plan, results are subject to both individual and company performance.
