Role Overview

The Accounting Manager will work to provide day-to-day leadership of the Accounting team and raise the technical bar. This role exists to give the Accounting team a dedicated leader, to shorten and de-risk the close, and to bring firm-grade technical rigour to judgement areas that currently escalate to the Controller.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the month-end and quarter-end close: own the calendar, review reconciliations and journal entries, and drive cycle-time reduction without loss of quality
  • Supervise, coach, and develop the Staff Accountants; own their workload allocation, review, and performance development
  • Serve as first-line technical resource on revenue, leases, equity, capitalization, and accruals.  The intention is to resolve at the Manager level what currently reaches the Controller
  • Own the balance sheet review process and the integrity of account reconciliations
  • Lead Consolidated Audit preparation and act as day-to-day contact for external audit fieldwork.  Help the Controller with Statutory Audit preparation by facilitating sample selection and responding to Auditor queries in a timely manner
  • Strengthen internal controls, document processes, and drive automation of manual close activity

What We're Looking For

  • CPA required
  • Public accounting background is strongly preferred. This would include Assurance experience at a national or Big Four firm, ideally with a move into industry, or a candidate ready to make that move now
  • Exceptional technical depth under US GAAP; able to research a position, document it, and defend it to auditors
  • 5+ years relevant experience including demonstrated supervision or review of others' work
  • Experience managing a team with excellent problem-solving and research skills
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to collaborate both internally and externally
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with accounting software is an asset; NetSuite experience is preferred
  • Software, SaaS, or technology-sector exposure considered an asset

Indicators of Success

We’re looking for someone who checks off most, but not all, of the boxes listed in “skills and experiences”.  It’s more important to us to find candidates who can display indicators of success through skills they have developed and experiences they have been a part of, than to find folks who have “been there, done that”.  We want to be part of your development journey, and we’ll learn as much from you as you learn from us.

At Magnet Forensics, we take a hybrid-flexible approach to support your productivity and work-life balance. Most days, you can choose what works best for you, while staying in tune with your team’s goals.

We’re excited to welcome you to our team and look forward to achieving great things together - both in the office and wherever you work best!
