Job Description

As a key member of the Insurance Special Project team you will be responsible to support the development & enhancements of IFRS 17 financial technical documentation, requirements and testing for Insurance Contract measurement, accounting systems and related methodologies with strong focus on Financial Data, Investments, Data Management, Financial Reporting and the implementation of new Financial Technology tools.  You will directly support the testing & analysis of processes and controls across financial applications while identifying and driving solution opportunities for improvements relating to the Insurance contract measurement, investment, expense, financial and accounting systems and data lakes.  Responsible for iteration functional testing, expected to actual analytics & documenting issue resolution as well as other requirements of the project as assigned to ensure strategic financial objectives are accomplished; contributing to initiatives ranging from large strategic projects to ongoing maintenance activities.  Develop in Python and related programming language supporting data software engineering that assists in the analytics and automation of controls of the Project Team.

What will you do?

  • Develop, run and maintain Key data technology tools supported by the Project Team.

  • Assist with data sourcing from IT and cash flow mapping

  • Develop Test Cases with expected results for Policy and Non-Policy Cash flows, Accounting Events and Financial Measurements.

  • Create and maintain testing documentation for supported systems.

  • Manual journal entry assessment, documentation of scope and requirements for IT. Manual journal entry processing, testing & audit documentation-expected and comparison to actual results

  • Automation of manual entries and processes.

  • Support users in resolving production issues and applying bug fixes

  • Leverages own technical Insurance accounting, and Insurance system knowledge to support the Close Process Team in the analysis and definition of requirements in an intersect of actuarial, investments, accounting, IT, process structure, regulatory, and data needs.

  • Provide support of business, financial analytics, testing, modeling and other requirements as assigned that covers actual, planning, forecasting, and disclosure requirements for Global RBC Insurance.  Includes but is not limited to the Income Statement, Earnings by Source, Financial Disclosures, Balance Sheet, Capital, Tax, Strategic Metrics and Financial Drivers.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • Currently enrolled in a Canadian post-secondary institution with a focus in Business, Math or Accounting.

  • Motivated self-starter, able to pick up new concepts quickly

  • Teamwork, collaboration, and co-operation is a requirement.

  • ‎Strong financial modeling skills, with the ability to manage and test large quantities of data

  • Outstanding technology skills.

  • Excellent ability to structure and write clear technical system, process, and methodology documents of varying lengths.

Nice-to-have

  • Ability to program in multiple programming languages including Python and quick to learn new software.

  • Ideally completed co-op or work experience with exposure to the Financial Industry ideally with Insurance Product knowledge (Life, Health, P&C and Wealth) or equivalent experience.

  • Knowledge of IFRS and/or Actuarial Standards of Practice.

  • Strong conceptual, analytical, and problem solving skills.

  • Ability to grasp technical details and determine macro-level issues
