Robotics companies combine science, engineering and technology to replicate or replace human actions, many of which are dangerous or tedious for human workers. These robots work alongside us in planes and cars, boost productivity, carry heavy objects and help people move, similar to how a wheelchair assists those who need help walking; they can be equipped with cameras to access areas unsafe for humans and even offer companionship to reduce loneliness and the risk of depression.

Through a Space Act Agreement at NASA’s Johnson Space Center, General Motors is developing a new humanoid robot designed to utilize advanced control, sensor and vision technologies to assist astronauts in space missions and improve safety in the company’s automotive production processes.

 

SharkNinja is a product design company that specializes in small household appliances and floor care products. Its vacuum cleaners, for example, are designed to map the layout of a home so they can navigate around obstacles such as walls, stairs and furniture. Headquartered in Massachusetts, SharkNinja has 18 offices worldwide. 

 

Encouraging customers to “practice like they play,” Trajekt Sports’ pitching machine is designed to replicate ball trajectories to enable pitcher representation for batter practice.
