Toronto now ranks as the third biggest tech hub in North America, thanks to its universities, immigration policies and innovation in artificial intelligence. The city has drawn some of the biggest tech companies in the world, and many more startups are likely to shape its IT scene in the future. Keep reading for a snapshot of some of the top IT companies in Toronto.

IT Companies in Toronto to Know

Software company Applied Systems makes cloud-based software for the insurance industry. Its products include agency management platforms, insurance automation, digital payments software and sales applications. Applied Systems opened its Canadian headquarters in Toronto in 2023.

 

KUBRA develops customer experience management software tailored for utility, insurance, finance and government sectors. Their portfolio includes billing and payment solutions like EZ-PAY alongside communication platforms like Notifi, which delivers personalized alerts across multiple channels. The company is headquartered near Toronto in Mississauga. 

 

Maple is a Canadian healthtech company that enables people to see a doctor online 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Its platform allows patients to text, audio or video chat with licensed physicians for diagnoses, prescriptions and treatment. Maple is based in Toronto. 

 

CyberArk is a software security company that specializes in privileged access management. Its platform provides clients with a way to securely store and manage sensitive accounts and privileged user credentials. CyberArk has a presence in twelve countries around the world. 

 

TransUnion began as a credit reporting agency before evolving into a global information and insight company. It not only provides credit reporting but also offers credit management services, fraud prevention and customer analytics. TransUnion’s Canadian headquarters are in Toronto

 

Softchoice was founded in 1989 as a software distributor but has since evolved to provide an array of IT services, including asset management, cybersecurity, cloud migration and other managed services. Softchoice employs more than 2,000 team members across 15 office locations in North America, seven of which are in Canada. Roughly 9,000 employees work out of its 125,000-square-foot headquarters office in Toronto.

 

Microsoft, which revolutionized the software industry with its Windows operating system and Microsoft Office suite, continues to innovate in AI and other technologies. The Washington-state-based company employs 5,000 workers across its 11 Canada offices. Microsoft’s Canada’s operations are headquartered in its 132,000-square-foot Toronto office, which opened in 2022 with a staff of 2,500 employees. 

 

Identity Digital provides domain name registrations to help customers build and maintain their digital identity. It maintains the world’s largest portfolio of top-level domains, including .info, .pro and .live. Identity Digital is headquartered in Bellevue, Washington with additional locations in Toronto, Denver, New Delhi, Dublin and Melbourne. 

 

Cloud-based data warehouse software company Snowflake helps businesses store, process, manage, secure and analyze their data. The company opened its Toronto office in 2022, one of five global engineering hubs. In 2024, it relocated to a new location on York Street, doubling its office space and personnel capacity.

 

Big data company Hitachi Vantara builds data infrastructure for businesses of all sizes, including more than 80 of the Fortune 100 companies. The tech consultancy also offers data management, AI-powered cloud storage solutions and cyber resilience services. Hitachi Vantara’s headquarters are in Santa Clara, California and it has 105 offices around the world, including one on Yonge Street in Toronto.

 

Autodesk is the company that developed AutoCAD, a software that engineers and architects use to design models and prototypes. The company, which was founded in 1982, has built upon its AutoCAD success with 3D design software tools Revit and Inventor. The San Francisco-based company employs 13,700 people, including 250 in its Toronto office.

 

Digital media consultancy Bounteous helps brands with their digital commerce, marketing, platform engineering, cloud solutions and analytics needs. Its clients include PBS, Wawa and Coca-Cola. Bounteous opened a new office in downtown Toronto in 2022, which is one of its largest collaboration centers.

 

ZS is a global technology consulting firm that supports clients with analytics, marketing, sales, supply chain, AI and growth strategy services. It employs more than 35,000 people across 35 offices around the world. ZS opened its Toronto office in 2002.

 

PagerDuty offers a digital operations management platform utilized across various sectors, providing solutions for incident management, customer service and system monitoring to enhance organizational operations. With hundreds of available integrations, PagerDuty supports efficient digital operations for a diverse clientele, including globally recognized brands like Zoom, DoorDash and Peloton. The company operates offices worldwide with a location in Toronto.

 

Flowable opened its first Canadian location near Toronto in 2020. The company provides an open-source, low-code business automation platform that helps users create automated process workflows. Flowable serves enterprise businesses around the world and has its headquarters in Switzerland.

 

Coursera is a global online learning platform that provides access to courses and degrees from more than 300 universities and companies. Its offerings include tutorials, certificates, specializations, bachelor’s degrees and master’s degrees. Coursera has an engineering office in Toronto, and it also partners with the University of Toronto to offer career development and professional skills courses.

 

Fintech company Gusto’s online platform helps small businesses streamline their HR tasks. It offers full-service payroll, team management tools, 401(k) options and health insurance. Gusto is based in Denver, Colorado, and while it doesn’t have a physical office in Toronto, the company considers the city a “center of gravity” for its remote employee hiring efforts.

 

Toronto-based BenchSci is a biomedical company that uses artificial intelligence to help research scientists find the best antibodies for their research. Its technology is used at 16 of the top 20 pharmaceutical companies and more than 4,300 research centers worldwide. BenchSci was founded in 2015 and employs 370 people.

 

Adastra is an IT consulting firm that specializes in data governance, data warehousing and data analytics services, like automating the collection of ESG data. It also assists clients with cloud adoption, cybersecurity and AI solutions. The company, which was founded in the Toronto area in 1994, employs more than 2,100 employees worldwide.

 

A leader in networking and videoconferencing technology, Cisco is known for its networking technology, like routers, switches and firewalls. It also consults with clients on technical matters and offers managed services for cybersecurity, data center and cloud services. Roughly 900 employees work out in the company’s Toronto office, which is the headquarters for Cisco Canada.
