Workplace Investigations & Resolution Lead

We are ready to take this game to the next level and need someone passionate to play a critical role in ensuring a respectful, inclusive, and productive work environment by leading the impartial, timely, and fair resolution of workplace disputes and complaints. This role is responsible for conducting formal and informal investigations, facilitating resolution processes, and ensuring alignment with OLG policies, programs, procedures, and applicable legislation.  The Lead provides expert guidance on related policies, offers assessments and recommendations on outcomes and corrective actions, and leads workplace mediation and restoration efforts where appropriate. The role also supports the management of complaints received through OLG’s Integrity Matters (or equivalent) program.  In addition, the role is accountable for the development, implementation, and delivery of OLG’s workplace restoration program, ensuring thoughtful and effective approaches to restoring team dynamics, rebuilding trust, and supporting healthy working relationships following workplace conflict or investigations.  This role provides factual findings that inform legal advice and recommendations, and collaborates with key internal partners, including People and Culture and Internal Audit.

YOUR ROLE IN THE GAME

Reporting to the Sr. Managing Counsel Legal Service Corporate & Litigation, you will be empowered to:

  • Design and deliver workplace restoration processes that rebuild trust, strengthen relationships, and support psychological safety following conflict or disruption.

  • Receive, assess, and triage workplace and enterprise complaints through Integrity Matters and other channels to determine the appropriate resolution path in line with legal and best practice standards.

  • Apply an explicit anti‑racism and power and privilege lens to all assessments, investigations, and restoration activities to address systemic barriers, bias, and inequity.

  • Practice cultural humility and design culturally safe, accessible processes that support dignity, trust, and fair participation for Indigenous peoples and other equity‑deserving groups, including AODA considerations.

  • Conduct legal and non‑legal risk assessments considering urgency, safety, workplace harm, and recommend resolution pathways such as informal resolution, mediation, investigation, or coaching.

  • Lead informal and formal investigations end to end, including investigation planning, interviews, evidence assessment, credibility analysis, factual findings, and clear written reports for internal and external stakeholders.

  • Facilitate informal resolution processes such as mediation, coaching, and restorative practices, with trust building and relationship repair as core outcomes.

  • Provide objective fact‑finding and defensible findings to support legal advice, policy interpretation, and organizational decision making.

  • Identify trends, systemic issues, and learning opportunities; maintain case tracking and reporting; deliver training; and proactively update processes and policies in line with legal developments and best practices.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE GAME

Education & Experience:

  • Post‑secondary education in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Law, Psychology, or a related field, with a law degree required; certification in workplace investigations and conflict resolution or mediation are strong assets.

  • Legal Expertise: Strong working knowledge of Ontario employment legislation, including the Human Rights Code, Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, and the Labour Relations Act.

  • Experience Depth: Minimum 7+ years of experience in workplace investigations, HR or employment law, employee relations, and conflict resolution, including mediation and workplace restoration practices.

  • Subject Matter and Resolution Expertise: Demonstrated experience investigating discrimination and harassment matters involving protected human rights grounds, and facilitating early resolution approaches such as mediation, facilitated conversations, and coaching while maintaining neutrality and clear role boundaries.

Relevant Skills:

  • Judgment, Communication, and Relationship Management: Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build trust, think critically, present clearly, and engage effectively at all levels of the enterprise while exercising sound judgment, emotional intelligence, integrity, and discretion in sensitive and evolving situations.

  • Execution and Environment: Highly organized and detail oriented, able to manage multiple complex and concurrent investigations while maintaining confidentiality; experience conducting workplace investigations in a unionized environment is a strong asset.

BENEFITS OF JOINING THE WINNING TEAM

  • Group Benefits Plan: Eligible employees and dependents have access to comprehensive, employer-paid group benefits coverage (permanent employees only).

  • Public Service Pension Plan: Participation in a highly desirable defined benefit pension plan.

  • Variable Pay Program: Participation in a performance-based incentive plan that recognizes organizational and individual achievements (permanent employees only).

  • Paid Time-Off: Competitive paid time-off provisions to support work-life balance and well-being.

  • Growth Focus: Become your best self with access to new opportunities and personalized support programs.

  • Comprehensive Learning: 24/7 access to robust online learning programs.
