Reporting to the Global Head of Tax, the VP, Head of Global Tax Advisory is a member of the Group Tax leadership team and has oversight for all corporate tax planning matters for the organization. Along with their team, this leader will work with other Group Tax functional and jurisdictional teams and other stakeholders to  

  • Devise and maintain tax-efficient corporate holdings and capital structures.

  • Provide transaction tax support to Corporate Development teams on mergers, acquisitions and other reorganizations, including tax due diligence.

Tax Strategy and Planning: 

  • Develop and implement tax strategies that align with the company's overall business objectives. 

  • Optimize tax positions and identify opportunities for tax savings and efficiencies. 

Compliance and Reporting: 

  • Oversee and maintain the Company’s transfer pricing policies and related compliance matters.  

  • Manage the Company’s Canadian foreign affiliate tax compliance obligations and maintain records of applicable surplus balances. 

 

Responsibilities:

Risk Management: 

  • Identify and mitigate tax risks through proactive planning and management. The Head of Global Tax Advisory is the Tax function’s top risk officer. 

  • Represent the Tax function on the Company's Subsidiary Capital Transaction Committee. 

  • Sit on the board of directors of select subsidiaries of the Company. 

Leadership and Team Management: 

  • Lead and mentor a team of tax professionals located around the world. 

  • Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture within the tax team. 

Stakeholder Engagement: 

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including finance, actuarial, legal, and business units, to provide tax advice and support. 

  • Represent the company in discussions with tax authorities and external advisers. 

Policy Development: 

  • Develop and maintain tax policies and procedures that ensure consistency and compliance across the Company. 

  • Stay updated on changes in tax legislation and advise the company on potential impacts. 

Financial Analysis and Reporting: 

  • Provide tax-related financial analysis and reporting to senior management. 

  • Support the preparation of financial statements and disclosures related to tax. 

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong academic background includes undergraduate degree in business or related field; MBA or other advanced/post graduate designation a plus. 

  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in tax profession, with a focus on international tax planning. 

  • Significant experience leading a Tax function and/or other strategic business function required. 

  • Previous tax experience with a top-tier strategy consulting firm and/or past relevant experience in multi-national top tier financial services and/or life insurance organizations a plus. 

  • Strong business acumen and highly developed communication and relationship skills. 

  • Project management and negotiation skills. 

  • Broad network and Asia experience preferred. 

  • Knowledge of and experience in the insurance industry would an advantage.

Working Arrangement

Hybrid

Salary range is expected to be between

$175,700.00 CAD - $326,000.00 CAD.

The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training.
