Key Responsibilities
- Define and lead the agency’s organic search strategy across pharmaceutical/healthcare clients, combining traditional SEO with Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) to drive visibility and conversions.
- Build and lead a cross-functional team of SEO analysts, technical SEO engineers, content strategists, data scientists, GEO specialists, and partner/vendor resources.
- Design frameworks and workflows that optimise web properties, content assets, knowledge-bases and other brand media for generative engines (i.e., AI-powered answer surfaces, conversational discovery platforms, zero-click environments).
- Partner with medical, regulatory/compliance, content and creative teams to ensure content is structured for discoverability (entities, schema markup, knowledge graphs, AI-citations), meets E-E-A-T standards (expertise, experience, authoritativeness, trustworthiness) and aligns with regulated pharma/health-communications protocols.
- Create measurement-and-reporting frameworks beyond traditional SEO metrics (rankings, traffic) to include: branded query share, generative-engine citation visibility, zero-click risk, conversational/query surfaces, conversion or engagement outcomes tied to GEO surfaces.
- Closely monitor and interpret search/AI trends (search engine algorithm changes, LLM behaviour, generative-engine sourcing, structured data/semantic web developments, voice/multimodal search) and translate into agency capability, tool-stack and client strategy.
- Collaborate with paid media, earned media/PR, analytics and data science to ensure organic + generative surfaces are integrated into overall media plans and client media ecosystems.
- Manage budget, vendor/tool selection (SEO technology stack, AI-search visibility tools, schema/knowledge-graph tools), P&L for the organic/GEO function.
- Act as thought-leader within the agency and externally: speak to clients and prospects on the changing search/AI landscape, lead training for internal teams, shape strategic positioning of the agency in the organic+GEO space.
- Ensure compliance with global/regional pharma/healthcare regulatory frameworks and privacy/data-governance regimes (FDA, GDPR, etc.) in all organic/GEO initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of digital marketing experience, with minimum 5+ years leading organic search/SEO in an agency or in-house setting (agency experience strongly preferred).
- Proven track record of building and scaling search/organic programs in complex, regulated environments (healthcare/pharma preferred).
- Deep expertise in SEO fundamentals: technical SEO, on-page & off-page, site architecture, mobile/UX, performance, international SEO.
- Demonstrated curiosity and hands-on experience with emerging generative search/GEO: e.g., optimizing content for AI-driven discovery, structured data/knowledge-graph work, entity/semantic optimisation, conversational query formats.
- Ability to develop content-architecture and workflows that make content “answer-engine friendly” (clear structure, entity signalling, Q&A formats, high-authority references).
- Data-driven mindset: ability to define KPIs, dashboards, analyse datasets, integrate AI/GEO visibility tools, track ROI for SEO/GEO.
- Excellent collaboration and client-facing skills: ability to work across media, creative, analytics, content and regulatory teams; ability to present strategic recommendations at senior-client level.
- Thought-leadership orientation: able to articulate the changing search/AI landscape and position the agency accordingly.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience working with pharmaceutical, biotech, healthcare or life-sciences clients.
- Global/international SEO/GEO program experience.
- Familiarity with AI-content/generation tooling (and awareness of how this interacts with search/GEO visibility).
- Experience selecting/managing SEO/GEO technology stack (AI-visibility tools, schema/knowledge-graph tools, semantic-data platforms).
- P&L or P&L-adjacent experience managing budgets, vendor partnerships, and operationalising high-growth functions.
