We are looking for a Vice President to join our Risk Management team, based in Toronto. Reporting to the Chief Risk Officer, this role will support the team with activities related to the identification, management, assessment, monitoring and reporting of risk to the firm.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that Canaccord’s risk exposure at an enterprise level is identified, analyzed, measured and monitored on a consistent, timely and accurate basis, and reported as appropriate, including summary reporting to senior management.
  • Develop new and maintain existing risk management policies for the firm and ensure these policies are communicated to the relevant stakeholders
  • Define approach for performing gap assessment of risk policies and practices
  • Develop an approach for the centralized reporting of operational risks, controls and mitigations for updates to senior management
  • Drive efforts to identify, assess, and prioritize key operational risk and controls
  • Partner with the business owners on performing operational risk and control self-assessments (e.g., RCSAs) to address potential risks and vulnerabilities for targeted areas of importance and key areas of risk
  • Collaborate with business owners and IT to identify opportunities to drive efficiency and mitigate operational risk via process improvements and automation, where possible
  • Work with business owners to ensure proper monitoring and assessment of internal controls leveraging key metrics (e.g., KPIs, KRIs)
  • Gather, analyze and report on risk events and loss events and prompt further evaluation for process and control improvement, where deemed necessary
  • Help develop a culture of risk management by developing and delivering educational sessions on operational risk and controls and best practices in risk management
  • Identify and analyze risk issues and exposure in connection with the review of new or unusual transactions as well as new product initiatives.
  • Further develop the firm’s approach to Third Party Risk Management (TPRM) and work with the IT team in onboarding new vendors and tracking existing vendors
  • Assist the firm in responding to regulatory inquires, where appropriate
  • Assist in managing the firm’s corporate insurance program
  • Work on special projects, as required.
  • Remain current on risk management practices and external operational risk events

Skills & Qualifications:

  • 7 - 10 years of experience in a risk management organization at a financial institution.
  • Undergraduate degree in a related field, such as Business Administration, Risk Management, or Finance.
  • Experience with Governance Risk & Compliance (GRC) software and tools
  • Experience in Wealth Management and/or Capital Markets industries is a strong asset
  • Action-oriented with a strong work ethic and drive to achieve excellence
  • Ability to lead and drive multiple competing priorities and thrive in a fast paced and complex environment which requires navigating ambiguity
  • Strong relationship development, and influencing skills while ensuring a collaborative approach
  • Clear and compelling communication style
  • Knowledge of relevant industry regulations and standards related to risk management.
