Job Description
Summary:
The Vice-President, Finance (“VP, Finance”) is a key member of the Credit Finance team, reporting directly to the Senior Vice President, Finance. They will also work alongside Brookfield’s senior leadership to support the strategic direction of the Credit Group’s partner manager companies through detailed analysis and the Brookfield Capital Solutions team, which is responsible for procuring credit for internal funds and syndicating the excess while protecting credit investor interests.
The role entails two key objectives:
The VP, Finance will play a key role as a conduit between partner manager management teams and Brookfield senior leadership; the position provides an opportunity to gain a deeper knowledge of asset management initiatives at the partner manager level, while also overseeing corporate finance and reporting deliverables.
Primary responsibilities include: partnering effectively with the partner manager leadership teams to achieve business objectives; providing high quality financial analysis to enable sound decision-making in support of the Brookfield strategy; track and analyze performance against the financial plans. The VP, Finance will have frequent interactions with BAM finance teams, and key stakeholders within Brookfield’s Credit Group including internal audit, legal, tax, and risk management.
The VP, Finance will assist the Brookfield Capital Solutions team in a variety of core capital markets responsibilities related to the establishment of their new Canadian business, including: leading the establishment of a Canadian regulated broker dealer entity (the “broker-dealer”) and business, market research/deal specific-intel (including deal comps), providing structuring guidance to deal teams, supporting syndication processes (including working with various external parties ). In summary, the VP, Finance will be intimately involved in various aspects of the establishment of the newly formed business, deal structuring, executions, relationship management and various ad hoc projects for the Canadian broker-dealer business.
The successful candidate will be a self-starter that enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, is comfortable maneuvering in a large, geographically diverse, matrix organization, has strong leadership skills, including excellent communication skills, is process oriented, possesses a high degree of intellectual curiosity, is business savvy, and has a superior finance/accounting foundation. This is a highly visible and very influential role in Brookfield with frequent and direct access to partner manager executive teams and Brookfield senior leadership.
Accountabilities:
Partner Manager Portfolio:
- Communicate both written and orally financial and performance metrics (e.g. margin analysis, debt metrics, capital planning) to key stakeholders including Brookfield senior leadership to provide timely, high-quality financial reporting and analysis to enable sound decision-making,
- Partner with Brookfield senior leadership to advise on financial implications of business decisions and new business opportunities
- Accountable for monthly, quarterly, and annual FP&A and reporting requirements, including technical accounting matters of our partner managers
- Onboard newly acquired companies and ensure a timely and accurate transition so that all internal Brookfield and external SEC requirements are met
- Support and advise on new system implementation
- Review monthly liquidity forecasts including distribution and capital planning
- Track and analyze performance against the financial plan, identifying root cause for variance and establishing action plans as needed to ensure target performance is achieved
- Provide a suite of insightful reporting, with a standard hierarchy, linked to the business strategy on business performance, ensuring KPIs are tracked
- Understand the various systems utilized throughout the organization, and ensure we are appropriately leveraging existing resources to provide added value in terms of insight, reporting and efficiency
Canadian Broker-Dealer:
- Establish and oversee the day-to-day operations of the Canadian regulated broker-dealer entity, including oversight of all operations (finance, legal, etc.) both internally and with external providers
- Provide support across the full of origination, underwriting and distribution of Canadian transactions
- Support creation of deal materials (e.g. debt models, credit memo) with inputs from deal teams and capital solutions leadership
- Understand market conditions on “what can be done”
- Support syndication activities in Canada
- Monitoring of credit investments warehoused and held
- Track interactions with investor, bank and direct lender contacts
- Manage Canadian capital markets deal pipeline
- Record fees and syndicate economics for several types of transactions
Skills & Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree in accounting, finance, economics or other relevant technical discipline, with 15+ years of experience;
- CA, CPA qualification or MBA/CFA required;
- Completed or willing to complete Canadian Securities Course and/or other applicable courses
- Highly analytical with great attention to detail;
- Demonstrated leadership ability and initiative;
