Protective Life is seeking a Variable Annuity Product Senior Director to join our Retirement Division. This leadership role reports to the Vice President of Retail Product and oversees a team of actuaries and analysts within the Product Development Department. The Senior Director will drive modernization of annuity product offerings, ensure best-practice pricing techniques, and communicate initiatives to secure governance approvals.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead product development and pricing for variable annuities and related guarantees (GLWBs and DBs) aligned with financial goals and risk appetite.
- Provide thought leadership on assumption setting (e.g., reinsurance, PBR margins, target surplus) and support enterprise assumption setting.
- Represent Pricing in ideation and feasibility processes to balance strategic impact and resource use.
- Oversee pricing projects, ensuring confidence in financial cash flow analysis (Statutory and GAAP) and risk assessment using GGY Axis.
- Maintain internal model controls and documentation in compliance with Pricing Standards.
- Present findings to senior management to inform business decisions and governance approvals.
- Collaborate with Product Management to ensure optimal data support for product initiatives.
- Lead ad hoc projects including product implementation, compliance, marketing support, and reinsurance.
- Guide actuarial recruiting and training to sustain a high-performance culture.
- Support acquisition due diligence and new business integration efforts.
- Foster a collaborative environment focused on professional growth and integrity in line with Actuarial Standards of Practice.
Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge Required
- Strong technical expertise in financial modeling and actuarial analysis.
- Ability to communicate complex actuarial concepts to diverse audiences.
- Leadership and team management skills with a focus on collaboration and development.
- Knowledge of Principle-Based Reserves (PBR) and GGY Axis preferred.
- Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field.
- Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) with current CPD compliance.
- 10+ years of actuarial experience in annuity pricing or related functions.
- Experience in annuity product development and management preferred.
- Prior leadership experience strongly preferred.
The internal title for this role is Sr. Director Actuarial Product.
