Job Summary
Sam Schwartz, a TYLin company, is seeking a full-time Transit Planner to be based in our Oakland office. This position will be part of a dynamic team that provides a range of planning services for public, private, and non-profit clients, including transit network development, corridor studies, strategic planning, multimodal transportation plans, and zero-emission bus planning. This is an in-person position, though staff may work from home on certain days with permission from manager.
This position will be focused on transit planning projects that may include transit service development, comprehensive operations analyses, bus rapid transit planning, corridor studies and tactical mobility lanes, emerging mobility planning, and transit agency strategic plans. This position may participate in zero-emission bus (ZEB) planning studies.
Responsibilities & Qualifications
Primary Responsibilities
The selected individual will perform various tasks, such as:

Coordinating with interdisciplinary project teams on a variety of transit planning projects

Writing technical reports
-
Developing presentation materials
-
Creating spreadsheet-based models
-
Conducting planning-level transportation data analysis to drive development of recommendations and solutions

Preparing high-quality graphics
-
Client and internal coordination
-
External stakeholder coordination
-
Meeting facilitation and participation
-
Administrative coordination and support
Skills and Qualifications
Ideal candidates will possess the following qualities:

Excellent written and verbal communication skills
-
Ability to communicate clearly and persuasively
-
Proficiency in using spreadsheets to interpret data and conduct complex analysis

Experience supporting or managing transit planning projects
-
Additional transit experience in any of the following additional areas:
- Transit scheduling and operations
- Zero-emission bus technologies and electrical principles
- “Emerging mobility” solutions such as microtransit

Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

Flexibility to work on-site and non-standard business hours occasionally, must be able to travel

Proficiency in data analysis and spreadsheet modeling tools
Requirements
Candidates must meet the following requirements:

Four years experience in the transportation planning field

Bachelors degree in urban planning, transportation engineering, or related field; Master’s degree is preferred.

AICP or PE certification is desirable but not required.

Additional Information
TYLin is committed to pay equity. As part of that commitment, we have provided the base compensation range of $87,800 to $146,600 annually for this position and local market. We recognize that each candidate brings a unique set of skills, experience, education and competencies to the table that will be reflected in our offer.
