The Team
Since we opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely, and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take payments and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn't work together.
So we expanded into software and started building integrated, omnichannel solutions - to help sellers sell online, manage inventory, offer buy now, pay later functionality through Afterpay, book appointments, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff. Across it all, we've embedded financial services tools at the point of sale, so merchants can access a business loan and manage their cash flow in one place. Afterpay furthers our goal to provide omnichannel tools that unlock meaningful value and growth, enabling sellers to capture the next generation shopper, increase order sizes, and compete at a larger scale.
Today, we are a partner to sellers of all sizes - large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex operations, sellers just starting, as well as merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. As our sellers grow, so do our solutions. There is a massive opportunity in front of us. We're building a significant, meaningful, and lasting business, and we are helping sellers worldwide do the same.
The Role
The Strategic Client Services Team within Global Seller Onboarding works directly with sellers and internal teams to ensure Strategic Customers are able to take full advantage of Square's products and services. Technical Project Managers work closely with teams within Sales & Account Management as well as Solutions Engineering and Product to deliver a seamless and exceptional merchant experience. Additionally, Technical Project Managers play a key role in merchant discovery and lead the final stages of the sale, working with Square's Strategic sellers and cross-functional teams to implement and activate new accounts.
As a Technical Project Manager, you will work with Square's most complex merchants, ensuring that they have the solutions and resources that they need to be successful. As well, you will work closely with our Product and Solutions Engineering teams to optimize all customer-facing touchpoints, define and drive improvements throughout the Sales funnel for our most complex merchants, and give key input into the product) roadmaps for customer facing developer products.
Square initially pioneered the simple self-service model to enable small businesses to take a payment. Now, we aspire to expand that same seamless experience up-market. This position will play a pivotal role in establishing the technical solutions needed for us to drive growth, retention, and scale our services up-market as well as internationally.
You Will

  • Assist in the scoping, planning, and execution of implementations involving complex system integrations; advise on limitations and capabilities to ensure a complete picture/vision is delivered to prospective sellers
  • Have a deep understanding of Square's Platform and Products and how they interact with merchant-facing APIs and SDKs.
  • Create and manage multiple complex projects across many merchants at once, often with competing timelines and requiring resource prioritization.
  • Develop relationships with teams within Sales & Account Management and our closest stakeholders within Customer Success, Engineering, and Product.
  • Be able to work with technical partners and explain technical requirements.
  • Identify and address potential obstacles during the onboarding process, manage stakeholder communication accordingly, and create strategies for driving success.
  • Perform data entry and migration functions as part of the on-boarding process for select sellers.
  • Run scripts, make HTML/CSS modifications, review API calls, and navigate the SQL database to successfully complete tasks as part of Square for Franchises implementation and onboarding.
  • Identify and present themes in seller feedback and industry trends to Solutions Engineers, PMs, GMs, and executives on a regular quarterly cadence.

You Have

  • BA/BS degree
  • 3+ years of experience in a project or program management role at a technology company; ideally with 5+ years in a customer-facing role
  • Ability to drive and manage multiple cross-functional initiatives simultaneously; strong time management, and excellent written & verbal communication skills
  • Ability to share vision and implementation strategies with C-level executives.
  • Capacity to distill complex requirements, craft tailored solutions, and explain detailed technical solutions and strategies in an easily digestible fashion
  • Experience with HTML, CSS, and SQL
  • Hands-on experience with APIs and SDKs, and the ability to understand developer documentation and communicate the content to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Experience in the POS, Payments or Tech industries is a plus
