The Director of Tax will be responsible for overseeing all tax-related activities for the company, ensuring compliance with international, federal, state, and local tax regulations. This role requires a strategic and creative thinker with a working knowledge of global tax laws and the ability to manage complex tax issues across multiple jurisdictions. This is a hybrid role with 1-2 days in our Markham office reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement global tax strategies to optimize the company’s tax and cash position.
  • Ensure compliance with all international, federal, provincial, state, and local tax laws, filing deadlines, and regulations
  • Oversee and have direct involvement in preparation of Canadian tax returns, working papers, and review of foreign tax returns prepared by third party preparers.
  • Oversee FAPI Analysis and Surplus calculations on entities as required.
  • Review of transfer pricing policies and transfer pricing reporting
  • Prepare quarterly and annual tax provisions to support the Company’s external financial statements including drafting of all related tax disclosures and tax presentation.
  • Manage installment calculations for the Company’s global operations balancing cash flow with minimizing attraction of installment interest charges and penalties.
  • Look for opportunities to standardize, streamline and implement improvements to the tax return and provision processes.
  • Manage tax audits and disputes with tax authorities.
  • Provide guidance on tax implications of business decisions, including mergers and acquisitions, restructurings, and other strategic initiatives.
  • Collaborate with finance, legal, and other departments to ensure alignment on tax matters.
  • Monitor changes in tax legislation and assess their impact on the company.
  • Lead and mentor the tax team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or equivalent certification required.
  • Minimum 10+ years of experience in corporate tax or a related role, with at least 5+ years in a leadership role preferably within a global or technology-driven organization.
  • Completion of Parts 1,2 and 3 of the In-Depth Tax Course
  • Working knowledge of international tax laws and regulations.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian FAPI and Surplus calculations is a must
  • Proven experience in managing tax compliance for a multinational company.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work cross functionally
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Proficiency in tax software and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Legally eligible to work in the country with sponsorship
