Why You’ll Love This Role

You’ll play a key role in shaping the future of Lumentum’s Optical Circuit Switch (OCS) products core to enabling the next generation of AI/ML data centers. As a System Architect, you’ll have broad technical influence across hardware, software, and FPGA teams, driving end-to-end product design from concept to production. You’ll collaborate with world-class engineers, engage directly with customers, and help define the architectures that power tomorrow’s high-performance networks. What You’ll Be Doing

The Lumentum OCS System Design & Architecture development team is looking for a new System Architect to grow our team.  The team is responsible for development of Lumentum’s OCS product line, addressing the emerging market in AI/ML datacenter applications.

  • The System Design & Architecture team provides technical leadership for a multi-disciplinary product development team and are the overall product design owners throughout its lifecycle.  This is critical role that involves elements of system engineering, technical risk identification and mitigation and actively leading a broad multi-disciplinary team.  This role will have a focus on SW architecture and requirements definition, while participating actively in other aspects of the product development.  You will work closely with functional design teams (HW, SW, FPGA), Verification, Reliability, Project Management, PLM, Operations, and other members of the System Design & Architecture team to successfully develop new products and bring them to production.  The role allows a wide exposure to Lumentum’s internal technology and sub-components and the opportunity to interact with people throughout the company. 
  • There is a strong customer facing aspect to the role as you will be the primary interface for technical discussions on requirements, specifications and technical program status. 
  • In addition to product definition and design leadership, responsibilities include:
  • Driving system integration and initial validation testing on new designs
  • Design and test report reviews
  • Coordinate failure analysis activities throughout the product lifecycle – development, design verification, manufacturing, qualification
  • Lifecycle support as the product line matures – managing EOL components, cost reductions, field failures
  • This is a senior position which requires strong accountability, leadership ability and significant technical background.

What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Physics, engineering physics, computer science or relevant engineering degree.
  • 10 years’ experience in product development with broad exposure to software, firmware, optics and hardware.  Experience in optical networking is preferred but not necessary.
  • Experience in a technical leadership role, particularly in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to facilitate discussions between multiple design disciplines are critical to success in this role.
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to multi-task.
