OUR SUMMER SQUAD 

Applications are open to current post-secondary students and recent graduates. This is a great opportunity for a current design student seeking an accredited internship as a requirement to graduate. We also welcome applicants from historically underrepresented groups or professionals making a career transition with less than 3 years of experience looking to take the next step in their career  
 
This is a summer contract that will give you valuable exposure and skill-building opportunities within several of our departments. Salt XC’s Summer Squad will consist of a 4-month long contract, full-time hours, from May to August 2026, with the opportunity for a contract extension beyond this date.  
 
Over the duration of the program, you can expect opportunities to network, meet Salters across other departments, participate in additional Learning & Development Opportunities, and receive mentorship from those currently in their desired field. 

This is currently a Hybrid work opportunity with 2-3 days in office required at our Salt Toronto Head Office. 

ROLE OVERVIEW  

SALT XC is seeking Creative Interns to join our team and gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced agency environment. This role is designed for emerging creatives from a range of backgrounds, including copywriting, art direction, and conceptual creative who are eager to learn, collaborate, and contribute to real-world creative work. 

As a Creative Intern, you’ll work alongside the Creative Team to support the development of ideas from concept through execution. You’ll participate in brainstorming, assist in shaping creative concepts, and contribute to storytelling and visual direction thinking for projects across social, digital, print, and experiential marketing.  

You’ll be expected to bring fresh perspectives, collaborate cross-functionally, and adapt your work based on feedback—balancing creative ambition with attention to detail and timelines. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic, adaptable, and motivated to learn, with a strong interest in creative problem-solving, brand storytelling, and how ideas translate across channels 

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES  
 
Creative Ideation & Development  

  • Contribute ideas, references, and points of view during brainstorms, creative reviews, and working sessions.  
  • Support the development of concepts by helping translate initial thinking into early-stage ideas, outlines, or visual/copy directions under guidance.  

Creative Execution  

  • Assist in the execution of creative work by supporting copy drafts, concept write-ups, or visual-direction inputs across channels.  
  • Implement feedback accurately and efficiently, ensuring updates align with the original creative intent and team direction.  

Creative Direction  

  • Support Art Directors and Copywriters by helping articulate ideas, rationale, and creative intent through notes, references, or presentations.  
  • Observe and learn how creative direction is applied across projects, asking thoughtful questions to build understanding of craft and standards.  

Presentation & Client Exposure  

  • Assist in preparing creative presentations, including organizing decks, writing supporting copy, and sourcing references.  
  • Participate in internal reviews and select client meetings as an observer, developing confidence in how creative work is discussed and presented.  

Creative Strategy  

  • Support the team by reviewing briefs, extracting key insights, and helping connect ideas back to objectives and audiences.  
  • Stay curious about culture, brands, and trends, bringing relevant observations or inspiration to the team when appropriate 

Creative Administration & Team Support  

  • Manage assigned tasks responsibly, meeting deadlines and communicating clearly if support or clarification is needed.  
  • Contribute positively to team culture by showing up prepared, receptive to feedback, and eager to learn agency ways of working.  

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS   

  • Recent grad or currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree/diploma in Advertising or creative related field. 
  • A portfolio that showcases student spec work. 
  • Strong communication skills. 
  • Ability to present and articulate ideas effectively. 
  • Promising conceptual thinking, ideation, and problem-solving skills. 
  • Detail-oriented with a keen sense of storytelling, branding, and audience engagement. 
  • Proficiency in PowerPoint for deck creation. 
  • Copywriters: Passion for writing, editing, and developing engaging brand narratives. 
  • Art Directors: Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) is a plus. 
  • A collaborative mindset with the ability to adapt creative work based on feedback.

The anticipated annual base salary range for this position is $42,000–$53,000. Individual compensation within this range is determined based on job-related factors such as experience, skills, level of responsibility, internal equity, and business needs. This range represents the expected base salary for this role and does not include other elements of SALT/The Kitchen’s total rewards program.
