The Substations Engineering Manager supports the Director of the Eastern Region, part of the Transmission and Distribution Technical Professional Organization (TPO), to meet the strategies and objectives by providing effective team leadership in the engineering of HV and MV substations.
The incumbent would be responsible for leading and mentoring a team of engineers and designers providing technical oversight and ensuring regulatory compliance. As well they would be responsible for client management including assessing new opportunities and participating in business development activities, cross-functional collaboration and project leadership.
Your rolePlan, organize, schedule and direct engineering for substation projects to ensure safe and efficient engineered solutions complying with engineering and quality processes, regulatory code requirements, utility Standards and industry best practices.
Perform day-to-day supervision and be responsible for the work of staff assigned to specific projects and provide guidance/direction as necessary.
Facilitate mentoring of Intermediate & Junior Engineers and Designers. Support the development of Senior and principal Engineers and Subject Matter Experts. Facilitate and create a working environment of having a philosophy and goals of continuous quality improvement.
Ensure engineering deliverables are prepared, reviewed and delivered within budget & per schedule and team performance meets project expectations.
Support Project Management by providing consolidated information on engineering design packages, status and forecasted engineering labor hours and resources deployment level for Substation projects.
Support Key account Managers, Proposal Managers and Program/Project Managers, as applicable, to render technical support and provide estimated engineering labor hours for proposals.
20+ years of experience in Medium and High Voltage Substation design and engineering.
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical engineering from a recognized University. Master’s degree in Electrical engineering would be an asset.
Registration as a Professional Engineer of Ontario (P.Eng.) is required.
Leadership skills with 6-8 years’ experience of management of engineering and other technical staff, while promoting collaboration and a positive environment for the team.
Technical problem-solving ability, with critical thinking and decision making skills.
Knowledge of Engineering processes for project execution, as well as regulatory Standards like CSA, IEEE, IEC.
Sound knowledge of Project Management principles, tendering and contract management, as well as strategic planning and budgeting
Expected compensation for this role is between $132,600 - $183,600 annually. Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, location, and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into account in our offers.
