Job Description
Reporting to the Subcontracts Manager, the Subcontracts Team Lead oversees
and coordinates subcontract administration activities for a large-scale rail transit construction project. This role provides day-to-day oversight of subcontract
coordinators and administrators, ensuring subcontract packages are executed,
tracked, and closed in compliance with contract requirements, project schedules, safety standards, and regulatory obligations. The Subcontracts Team Lead works closely with the Subcontracts Manager, project controls, construction, and engineering teams to support successful project delivery.
Subcontract Administration & Execution
Lead the administration of multiple subcontract packages covering rail transit
scopes such as civil works, track, systems, utilities, stations, and specialty trades.
Coordinate issuance of subcontracts, notices to proceed, amendments, and change orders.
Ensure accurate tracking of subcontract values, changes, insurance, bonds, and
compliance documents.
Support subcontract closeout activities, including final releases and documentation.
Team Leadership & Coordination
Provide day-to-day guidance and oversight to subcontract coordinators and
administrators.
Assign workloads, track progress, and ensure deadlines are met.
Review subcontract documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
Serve as a technical resource for subcontract administration best practices.
Performance, Cost & Schedule Support
Assist in monitoring subcontractor performance related to scope, schedule, and cost.
Coordinate with cost/project controls on budgets, forecasts, and change management.
Support identification and resolution of subcontract issues and risks Prepare summaries and reports for project management and leadership.
Compliance, Risk Management & Dispute Resolution
Ensure flow-down of prime contract requirements, including safety, quality, insurance, bonding, and labor compliance provisions · Assist with internal and external audits and documentation reviews Actively work to avoid disputes by maintaining clear communication and proactively managing subcontractor issues.
Liaise with construction and technical team to ensure that all subcontractors are on schedule and that any delays are promptly addressed, identifying potential issues early and work collaboratively with the teams to mitigate risk ensuring the projects stays on track and within budget.
Mitigate, identify and evaluate potential change orders and claims assisting with the resolution of outstanding commercial issues.
Coordinate with subcontracts manager and legal team as needed to address contractual disputes.
Support the project closeout process by verifying that all contractual obligations have been fulfilled.
Collaboration & Communication
Act as a primary point of contact between subcontractors and internal project teams.
Coordinate closely with construction managers, project managers, cost control, schedulers, legal, and finance teams.
Participate in project meetings related to subcontract execution and risk.
Required Skills and Competencies
Strong understanding of construction subcontracting practices
Ability to lead and mentor team members in a project environment
High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
Effective written and verbal communication abilities
Problem-solving mindset with the ability to manage competing priorities
Proficiency with contract management systems, project controls tools, and MS Office.
Work Conditions
Fast-paced construction environment with multiple active subcontractors.
Project-based role with a mix of on-site and office responsibilities.
Occasional travel between project sites and offices.
Total compensation for this role includes an annual salary in the range of $100k-$135K depending on working experience, education, and certifications, benefits, vacation pay, sick pay, training , and RSP matching contribution.
