About Wolt

At Wolt, we create technology that brings joy, simplicity and earnings to the neighborhoods of the world. In 2014 we started with delivery of restaurant food. Now we’re building the delivery of (almost) everything and you’ll find us in over 500 cities in 30 countries around the world. In 2022 we joined forces with DoorDash and together we keep on dreaming big and expanding across the globe.
Working at Wolt isn’t always easy, but it’s definitely exciting. Here you’ll learn more, build more, and ship more than in most other companies. You’ll be challenged a lot, but also have a lot of fun on the way. So, if you’re a self-starter with drive and entrepreneurial spirit, this could be the ride of your life.

What you’ll be doing

Wolt is looking for a Staff Engineer to join the Data Group to support the engineering teams responsible for delivering data experiences to a variety of stakeholders across the company.

The group consists of several high agency teams responsible for the delivery of parts of our data platform such as: data asset authoring, data orchestration, data governance, and BI platform. They move fast, taking into account best engineering principles to ensure these high profile areas are maintainable, scalable and meeting the high reliability bar we expect in Wolt.

In this function you will be responsible for primarily driving the future of our data experience and consumption products delivering exciting new features that will reach tens of thousands of internal users. You will contribute in these areas hands on, while helping us grow our engineering excellence culture and define our future technical roadmaps.

You will be working with an amazing group of developers of differing seniorities, with the opportunity to learn from and mentor others in best engineering practices and design of complex backend services.

What you’ll need to succeed
  • Hands-on development – write efficient code and make sound architectural choices that keep our systems fast, reliable, and ready to scale in mission-critical settings.
  • Technical leadership – set the direction for your domain and actively support the team in delivering high-quality work.
  • Road-mapping and prioritisation – help our organization size engineering efforts, balance priorities, and keep the roadmaps on track.
  • System health – plan for scalability and maintainability, schedule architectural improvements, automate tests, and pay down technical debt.
  • Cross-team execution – steer large, business-critical projects from concept to roll-out.
  • Knowledge-sharing – champion best practices and mentor other engineers across Wolt, with a focus on the Data Group.
Our humble expectations

As one of our senior engineers, we expect you to have several years of experience building backend services at scale, ideally with prior staff-level responsibility.

Primarily using Go and Python, you should be comfortable coding in both languages and eager to explore new technologies.

Working knowledge of databases such as MongoDB, PostgreSQL and Cassandra, alongside Kubernetes and Kafka are expected, as these are core to our stack.

Familiarity with observability tools such as Datadog and Sentry, and big data solutions like Snowflake, is an advantage.

Alongside your technical depth, you communicate clearly and maintain a product-focused mindset; close collaboration with peers, team members, and product managers is key to success.

While driving the vision and future architecture, you will also dive into the codebase, review contributions, and step in to implement when needed.

Next steps

The position will be filled as soon as we find the right person, so make sure to apply as soon as you realize you really, really want to join us!

The compensation will be a combination of monthly pay and DoorDash RSUs. The latter makes it exceptionally easy to be excited about our company growing and doing well, as you’ll own a piece of the pie.

Our Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion

We’re committed to growing and empowering a more inclusive community within our company, industry, and cities. That’s why we hire and cultivate diverse teams of people from all backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. We believe that true innovation happens when everyone has room at the table and the tools, resources, and opportunity to excel.
