About the Role & Team:
We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer who is an expert in Java and/or Scala related technologies and can work closely with the various business units, product management, architecture, operations and quality engineering teams, as well as third party software vendors. The candidate is expected to be a self-starter and a great teammate, a strong driver for results and continual improvements should be passionate about their work and has strong commitment towards eBay and its community.


What You Will Accomplish:

  • Design, develop and support worldwide projects throughout all phases of the software development process
  • Lead the team as the technical and agile lead to handle all technical and day-to-day operations of the team
  • Work with engineers and other multi-functional teams like Product Management, Release Engineering, Quality Engineering, Architecture, Operations teams etc. to develop innovative solutions that meet market needs with respect to functionality, performance, scalability, reliability, realistic implementation schedules and alignment to development goals and principles
  • Lead product initiatives, recommend improvements, mentor and guide junior team members
  • Identify project risks and work effectively to mitigate them
  • Share release management duties on feature rollouts

What You Will Bring:

  • MS/Bachelor Degree or equivalent in Computer Science or related field and 10+ years of professional experience.

  • Computer Science fundamentals - algorithms, data structures, programming paradigms, design/architectural patterns.

  • Solid foundation in modern programming languages (our current stack of Scala/Java is preferred but not required).

  • Experience with relational/NoSQL/columnar databases

  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to influence a multi-functional team to deliver results.
