Who we areAbout Stripe

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies—from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone’s reach while doing the most important work of your career.

About the team

Join Stripe's Subscriptions team to help people start, run and scale businesses with complex recurring payments from anywhere in the world. Our users depend on our products to make it easy to accept recurring payments: from selling SaaS subscriptions, to orchestrating multi-stage contracts, and allowing merchants to utilize powerful quote lifecycle features. We deliver these capabilities at scale to manage millions of recurring payments a day, for businesses ranging from exciting, fast moving startups to large, world-spanning companies.

What you’ll do

Subscriptions team members have the opportunity to design and extend Stripe's public Subscriptions & Quotes API, build abstractions spanning multiple teams and think about the future of Stripe's Billing architecture. We are looking for a Staff Engineer who is passionate about delighting users and building elegant APIs that enable merchants to run and scale their businesses on top of Stripe. You will work closely with our highly technical users to understand their needs and to build products that help them be more successful on Stripe.

Responsibilities
  • Help build our next generation Subscription primitives that will power many higher order APIs
  • Lead by example in designing, developing and delivering optimized, delightful product experiences
  • Partner closely with engineering, product, and design leadership to define our product-led growth strategy
  • Establish best practices, frameworks, and repeatable processes that enable us to measure the impact of every feature that we ship
  • Make effective tradeoffs that consider business priorities, user experience, and a sustainable technical foundation
  • Develop and lead the team to execute against both short-term and long-term roadmaps
  • Work in a variety of languages and technologies, including Ruby, Java and Typescript
  • Mentor and coach individual contributors to become the next generation of leaders at Stripe
Who you are

We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum requirements
  • 10+ years of experience in full time software development roles
  • You can work effectively across the stack from top to bottom, comfortably navigating codebases with different languages and tools
  • You’re self-directed and can operate autonomously across multiple teams to deliver scaled impact
  • Experience as a technical lead, including defining the roadmap for complex projects spanning multiple teams and functions
  • Experience mentoring and growing senior engineers as their technical leader
Preferred qualifications
  • 8+ years of experience in full time software development roles
  • You have a strong technical background, including 8+ years of experience designing and engineering products and user surfaces for high-impact products
  • Experience with experimentation
  • Experience with data-driven decision making
