Job Description
General Function:
Reporting to the Assistant Controller, this position will be a critical member of the global corporate accounting team managing and recording bank activity, securitization, debt and intercompany transactions. This position will contribute to the month-end close, balance sheet account reconciliations, maintaining sound internal controls, adherence to GAAP, assist with audit support, and interfaces with business partners including US and Canadian operations, FP&A, Tax, Treasury and other departments.
Job Description:
- Perform proper accounting methods, policies and principles when booking journal entries for the following areas: cash transactions, interest, debt-related activities, intercompany and other financial events
- Maintain working knowledge of legal entity structure and manage intercompany reconciliations and eliminations.
- Timely preparation of reconciliations by collecting details from various sources (bank statements, AP registers, accounting details) to reconcile transactions and identify unreconciled items to be investigated.
- Investigate all variances or unknown transactions within reconciliations to determine the proper accounting entry
- Ensure the integrity of accounting information through timely journal entry preparation, variance analyses and resolution of account variances
- Maintain a positive working relationship when addressing problems and providing solutions
- Respond to questions from other internal departments as well as liaising with select external parties
- Assist with assessing and monitoring internal controls, including risk assessments and reviews of risk areas
- Identify inefficiencies and recommend improvements towards a quicker month-end close while maintaining accounting integrity
- Establish monitoring and enforcing company’s policy, procedures and internal controls
- Assist with the external audits by preparing audit support and providing answers to questions
Qualifications
Education:
- Post secondary education in Accounting
- Accounting degree preferred
Experience:
- 2+ years general accounting experience
- Bank reconciliation experience
- Journal entry preparation experience
Skills:
- Ability to apply critical thinking, analyze information and establish resolution plan
- Self-motivated; able to work independently to complete tasks and respond to department requests and to collaborate with others to utilize their resources and knowledge to identify quality solutions
- Strong organization; ability to prioritize tasks for self and team to meet requirements and deadlines
- Must be able to perform with a high level of accuracy under tight time constraints, execute assignments and set direction rather than require direction.
- Ability to handle large datasets, complex GL strings and multiple entities/currencies
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills (pivot table, vlookups and filtering experience)
- Excellent oral and written communications skills
- Comfortable with change and fast-paced environment
- Familiarity with Oracle ERP system, Kyriba (treasury workstation) and Hyperion Financial Management, a plus
- Ability to update Standard Operating Procedures
