About Rodan Energy
Rodan Energy is a North American leader in distributed energy resources and energy intelligence, enabling a more reliable, cost-effective, and decarbonized grid. We partner with large energy users, utilities, and grid operators to design, finance, and operate high-impact DER solutions—including asset optimization, demand response, metering, and power system engineering. Managing 1,400+ MW of flexible capacity across Ontario, NYISO, PJM, MISO, and AESO, we make sustainable attainable.
About the Role
As wholesale energy markets evolve and opportunities expand, we're hiring our first dedicated trader to execute our trading strategy and build the foundation for a high-performing trading function.
As Senior Trader, you'll execute trades across multiple ISOs, manage positions, and develop the playbooks that will define how Rodan trades. This is a hands-on role for someone who wants to be in the market every day—not managing from the sidelines. You'll work directly with the Director of Energy Markets, with a clear path to lead the trading team as we scale.
What You'll Do
Trading Execution
  • Execute day-ahead and real-time trades across IESO, AESO and US markets (PJM, NYISO, MISO)
  • Manage positions and exposure within defined risk limits
  • Capture DA/RT spreads, capacity value, and ancillary services opportunities
  • Coordinate with Real-Time Operations on dispatch and market conditions
Market Analysis & Strategy
  • Analyze market data to identify opportunities and refine trading strategies
  • Work with Data Science to translate algorithmic outputs into executable positions
  • Develop capacity auction participation strategies
  • Monitor regulatory and market rule changes
Process Development
  • Build trading playbooks and standard operating procedures
  • Prepare daily P&L reports and performance attribution
  • Support Settlements in trade reconciliation
  • Document trading rationale for compliance and continuous improvement
What You Bring
  • 4+ years in energy trading, power markets, or quantitative portfolio management
  • Hands-on experience submitting bids/offers in at least one ISO/RTO market (IESO, PJM, NYISO, MISO, or AESO)
  • Track record of profitable trading or demonstrated contribution to trading desk P&L
  • Strong quantitative skills; proficiency in Excel; working knowledge of Python or SQL
  • Deep understanding of wholesale electricity markets: LMP, capacity, operating reserves, ancillary services
  • Ability to make decisions under pressure with incomplete information
  • Growth mindset—eager to build, learn, and take on increasing responsibility
Nice to Have
  • Experience with demand response or DER portfolio optimization
  • Familiarity with Ontario's new LMP market (launched May 2025)
  • NERC certification or ISO market participant credentials
  • Background in energy risk management or derivatives
Success in 12 Months Looks Like
  • Trading P&L meets or exceeds targets with risk metrics within approved limits
  • Trading playbooks operational across IESO and at least one US market
  • Daily P&L reporting and performance attribution running smoothly
  • Demonstrated readiness for increased autonomy and expanded position limits
  • Clear trajectory toward Manager promotion within 18-24 months
Location & Work Model
  • 3 days hybrid from Mississauga HQ preferred; potential consideration for candidates in markets where Rodan operates on remote-first work setup
  • On-call availability required during peak trading periods and critical market events
  • Available for a 1-hour window on both Saturdays and Sundays to execute essential trades
  • Travel ~10% for ISO stakeholder meetings and industry conferences
Compensation & Benefits
  • Base salary: Competitive $120k to $170k base, reflective of your technical expertise, prior success and market experience
  • High-Upside: Direct Trading Team P&L participation with uncapped upside potential, providing a quantifiable reward for the successful scale-up of our market operations.
  • Comprehensive health & wellness benefits
  • Group RRSP with employer matching
  • Clear path to Manager role with significant compensation growth
Apply Now: If you’re passionate about energy efficiency, innovation and driving growth in a rapidly evolving industry, we want to hear from you!
