What you'll be doing

As a member of CIBC’s team, the Senior Project Manager, IT is a seasoned expert responsible for overseeing the day-to-day project activities of complex projects of a tactical nature, ensuring project control procedures and policies are adhered as per technology’s project performance standards. The role works with minimal direction, applying deep knowledge in their field of expertise to manage the delivery of project management best practices and processes including reporting, project planning, and support activities. The Senior Project Manager, IT uses significant latitude in determining objectives and leads employees in the development of analytical approaches, while establishing and maintaining client, senior management, and project manager relationships. In addition, the role ensures compliance with enterprise delivery frameworks, provides status updates and progress reports to project stakeholders to manage expectations related to scope and timeline constraints.

How you'll succeed

  • Project Planning & Management – Outline project goals, terms of reference, resource requirements, and costs. Create a resource plan that ensures all stakeholders have a voice on the project. Mitigate risks and ensure projects align with business goals. Monitor milestones; ensure they are completed according to timelines and budgets. Execute a project plan that strikes the right balance between budget, time, and risk. Oversee the end-to-end project lifecycle, from initiation and planning to deployment, monitoring, and closure.
  • Stakeholder Communication & Collaboration – Help internal partners make informed decisions about the development of programs, products, and services. Coach and mentor, your teams as you work toward a common goal. Negotiate deliverables and milestones whenever necessary.
  • Risk and Issue Management - Identify, assess, and mitigate risks and issues throughout the project lifecycle. Establish contingency plans and escalate critical challenges as necessary.
  • Leadership and Collaboration - Liaise with cross-functional teams, including technical experts and external contractors, fostering collaboration and accountability. Provide mentorship and guidance to junior team members to enhance team performance.

Who you are

  • You can demonstrate at least 5+ years of experience in project management, ideally within the financial services or technology industry. You have managed cross-portfolio projects in a matrix environment. Experience with end-to-end project cycles, including planning, execution, and post-implementation review. You have experience with waterfall and agile methodologies and knowledge of the Software Delivery Life Cycle (SDLC). You have experience with project management and issue management tools like Planview, ServiceNow, and JIRA. It’s an asset if you have your PMP designation.
