Senior Manager, Strategy, Intelligence, & Operations, eBay Motors

eBay Inc. is a global commerce leader that connects millions of buyers and sellers around the world. We exist to enable economic opportunity for individuals, entrepreneurs, businesses, and organizations of all sizes. We are a purpose-driven company that puts the customer at the heart of everything. Our culture encourages people to think big, be curious, act with integrity, and be courageously inclusive. If this sounds compelling, come join eBay!

About the opportunity

eBay Motors is a multi-billion dollar, global portfolio comprising the Parts & Accessories, Business & Industrial, Vehicles, and WHI (a B2B Parts & Accessories marketplace in US) businesses. These categories are not only among the largest on eBay and core to eBay’s strategic future, but also are also actively innovating in the market and at eBay.

We are looking to hire a Senior Manager of Strategy and Operations, located in Toronto, Canada, who will have a global remit as part of a Global Motors Strategy, Intelligence, & Operations team. This role will lead growth initiatives within the Parts & Accessories business, support the eBay Motors leadership team, and accelerate growth across the Motors’ portfolio of assets.

The role will utilize data and business case development to develop strategic insights and lead execution of key initiatives with partners, while ensuring operational excellence in planning, analytics, reporting, and collaboration across a broad cross-functional team, pursuant to the following stages:

  • Understanding our buyers and sellers, and their respective end-to-end experience
  • Lead the strategy development of key initiatives and drive alignment of key partner teams and leadership. Our key partners include product, marketing, analytics, finance, operations, pricing, and business development, among many others.
  • Partner with business and product teams to develop, implement, and iterate tests
  • Operationalize initiatives and transition to business teams
  • Contribute to global reporting for in-process / launched initiatives and the broader Motors portfolio

The role demands a dual mentality: both that of a strategic leader—who has a deep understanding of the dynamics of two-sided marketplaces, can break down tough problems into clear frameworks, operate in ambiguity, and possesses strong data intuition and executive-ready communications—as well as someone who can move quickly and decisively as an embedded operator not afraid to get their hands dirty.

Responsibilities

  • Understand the needs of different P&A customer segments
  • Identify and execute opportunities across Motors that require strategic assessment
  • Drive progress against milestones for key strategic initiatives
  • Partner with product teams and/or other Marketplace Success category managers to conceptualize, test, and iterate solutions as well as meet measurable goals
  • Create operational consistency, processes, and alignment across the portfolio
  • Establish processes and guardrails to ensure operational success
  • Build and own executive-ready presentations on Motors strategy and operations updates
  • Own tracking and reporting of portfolio health to eBay global leadership teams
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners; ensure alignment with other eBay verticals, other eBay teams, and global initiatives

Qualifications

  • Passion for operating ecommerce businesses and/or two-sided marketplaces
  • Track record of strategic development, structured thinking, and operating plan implementation
  • Track record of launching and leading successful consumer-facing products
  • Demonstrated ability to project manage a group of peers and lead through influence
  • Strong cross-functional leader who is also recognized as a collaborator and partner
  • Self-motivated to identify opportunities and challenges in the business
  • Executive level verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to tell a compelling story backed by data
  • High degree of ownership and commitment to results
  • Data-driven approach to strategy, planning, and decision making
  • Organized problem solver who balances attention to detail with efficiency
  • Strong understanding of P&L
  • Ability to operate in a small, nimble, and impactful team
  • Ambition to grow professionally and willingness to work hard, learn/adapt, and provide feedback both upward and to peer teams

Requirements

  • 7+ years of related experience, including 2+ years at a top-tier management consulting firm, investment bank, or in a strategy & planning role at a major corporation
  • Strong ability to synthesize and visualize data and strategic insights and business case financial and operational modeling via PowerPoint and Excel
  • SQL experience a plus, but not required
  • Industry experience in consumer goods, retail, e-commerce, or consumer tech
  • Interest and/or experience in Motors a plus, but not required
  • BA/BS required, MBA or similar graduate degree preferred
