The Opportunity:

The Sr. Manager, Finance BP, US CAPEX, is a critical role responsible for providing financial leadership, analysis, and oversight for capital projects across the Kankakee and Plasma organization. You will ensure the accurate planning, tracking, and reporting of capital expenditures while driving efficiency, cost optimization, and compliance with financial policies. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to enable strategic capital investment decisions that align with our long-term operational goals.

You will focus on implementing process improvements globally by applying technological and digital solutions and providing analyses and business cases for executive and senior leadership across CSL Plasma and the Kankakee, IL site.

The Role:

Capital Planning & Forecasting:

  • Collaborate with Project Delivery teams and Project Managers to develop comprehensive annual capital budgets, forecasts, and long-term capital expenditure plans that align with business strategies and site priorities.

  • Partner closely with project teams and site finance leads to deliver detailed, accurate forecasts that align with project timelines, resource requirements, and corporate financial objectives.

  • Monitor financial performance of capital projects, ensuring strict adherence to budgets and proactively identifying variances with clear, actionable recommendations to mitigate risks.

  • Ensure the accuracy of automated depreciation calculations for budgets and forecasts. Provide timely, insightful commentary to Finance Business Partners on changes in depreciation impacts.

Capital Project Financial Oversight:

  • Provide strategic financial leadership for capital projects, including large-scale infrastructure investments, facility expansions, and process improvement initiatives.

  • Conduct robust financial evaluations of project business cases, assessing viability using return on investment (ROI), net present value (NPV), payback period, and other critical financial metrics.

  • Deliver clear, data-driven insights and financial risk assessments during stage-gate reviews to support optimal decision-making for capital investments.

  • Track project costs, manage contingency budgets, and oversee cash flow for active projects, proactively identifying opportunities for cost optimization, efficiency, and value creation

Reporting & Governance:

  • Develop and implement standardized processes for tracking and reporting capital expenditures to ensure transparency, accuracy, and timely communication of project status to key stakeholders.

  • Prepare comprehensive monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on capital performance, including actuals, variances, forecasts, and key performance metrics (KPIs).

  • Ensure compliance with capitalization policies, depreciation schedules, accounting standards, and timely capitalization of Construction in Progress (CIP) assets.

  • Support internal and external audit requirements for capital projects by maintaining thorough documentation, governance practices, and adherence to policies.

  • Lead or support key initiatives related to capital guidelines, contingency management, pre-capital treatment, fixed asset counts, and capital savings opportunities.

Business Partnering:

  • Serve as a trusted strategic finance partner to Project Managers, Engineering, Procurement, and Site Finance teams, embedding financial insights into project planning, execution, and decision-making processes.

  • Align project teams with corporate finance objectives, ensuring capital investments are prioritized and optimized to meet company goals.

  • Proactively identify and address financial risks and opportunities, providing recommendations to optimize resource allocation and project performance.

  • Drive improved financial acumen across project teams and business partners by delivering targeted training programs tailored to identified needs, in collaboration with Project Delivery leadership.

Process Improvement & Standardization:

  • Lead process improvement initiatives to enhance capital financial management, focusing on automating reporting, analysis, and monitoring tools for greater efficiency and accuracy.

  • Establish and maintain standardized governance frameworks, templates, and workflows for capital processes across all sites and functions to promote consistency.

  • Champion the adoption of digital tools, analytics, and dashboards to improve visibility, streamline reporting, and enable data-driven decision-making.

  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement by implementing process enhancements that drive timeliness, accuracy, and repeatability while leveraging technology to improve business partner experience.

Your skills and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.

  • MBA, CPA, or CMA preferred.

  • Minimum 7 years of progressive finance experience, with a focus on capital projects, investment analysis, or operations finance.

  • Proven track record in managing large-scale capital budgets and business case evaluations.

  • Strong financial modeling and capital investment analysis (e.g., ROI, NPV, IRR).

  • Proficiency in financial systems (e.g., SAP BPC), data analysis tools, and Excel.

  • Experience with project management tools and reporting platforms (e.g., Power BI, SAP Project, Clarity).

  • High expertise of Excel and PowerPoint

  • Experience in biotech, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, or other capital-intensive industries preferred
