The Sr. Manager of Engineering Lending will lead a team of talented backend engineers to build & develop multiple consumer-facing lending products such as the Varo Believe Card and Varo Advance. You will evolve, create, implement, and maintain Varo's strategic Lending business vision. This role will collaborate cross-functionally to quickly accelerate the lending business and ensure the delivery of impactful solutions.

What you'll be doing

  • Lead our engineering team to build a robust and reliable Lending Platform
  • Provide mentorship and build a team of amazing engineers
  • Collaborate closely with Product, Design, and other teams to define requirements, and set clear measurable goals for the team
  • Define standards for software architecture, code quality, and test coverage
  • Be a hands-on manager, write code each week, participate in architectural discussions and decision-making with the team
  • Drive quality and excellence on the team, and be a strong evangelist for our users and brand
  • Own services with pride. Streamline processes for efficient delivery of the quality product. Setup monitoring and alerting, and learning feedback loop to continuously improve our products

You'll bring the following required skills and experiences

  • 4+ years of experience leading a team of software engineers
  • 10+ years experience in hands-on software development
  • Experience working with consumer lending products
  • Successfully built and shipped consumer products
  • Experience guiding teams through planning, prioritization, and execution of work
  • Experience integrating with third-party vendors
