What you'll be doing

As a member of CIBC’s team, the Senior Manager, Application Development is a professional responsible for managing multiple development projects, development groups and application support functions for a Global Wires and Payments technology group. The role applies professional knowledge to oversee the development, testing and implementation and maintenance of Wires investigation and platforms, directing,  motivating and developing staff to maximize their individual contribution and function effectively as a team. The Senior Manager, Application Development leads a team to manage resource requirements and allocations, monitor and improve quality, and ensure 'best practice' development techniques. Additionally, the role works with the business in the development, testing and implementation of application programs that help promote business improvement.

How you'll succeed

  • Understanding Requirements – Track and analyze operating environment for specified services and implement corrective actions as needed. Work with clients and internal partners to determine, negotiate, and manage services to the agreed standards. Monitor service levels to identify opportunities for improvement and recommend appropriate solutions.

  • People Leadership – Lead and coach a high performing group team of individuals. Direct, motivate, and develop your team, maximizing their contributions and professional growth. Share knowledge and collaborate to come up with effective solutions to problems.

  • Relationship Management – Work closely with clients and business partners to develop, test, and implement application program. Impact and improve the business by advising application owners on the technology possibilities and requirements.

Who you are

  • You can demonstrate experience With 5–8 years of experience leading developer teams, you are a seasoned professional skilled at coaching and developing others. You champion code quality and have hands-on expertise in software design, particularly with SOLID principles. Experience or knowledge in Client Data Management, data warehousing, DevOps, and cloud engineering is an asset. Ideally, you are familiar with designing cloud applications, Agile methodology, and have worked in Scrum teams. You manage the wires payments business unit’s daily operations, ensuring efficient and compliant processing of domestic and international transactions in line with regulatory standards (SWIFT, OSFI, OFAC, Payments Canada, SOX). You maintain strong technical knowledge of relevant infrastructure (HPE Nonstop, RHEL, Oracle, IBM MQ, OpenShift, Kubernetes, Docker, JBOSS EAP, HSM, networking/firewalls) to provide effective troubleshooting and support. As the primary contact for external partners (SWIFT, Payments Canada, etc.), you support integration and operational requirements. You translate business strategy into actionable objectives, lead modernization projects, and coordinate enhancements and integrations for payment platforms. You proactively identify and mitigate operational risks, implement controls, and ensure the integrity of high-value payment flows. You prepare compliance and operational reports, maintain audit records, and support incident and problem management processes. Availability for weekend, evening, and 24/7 on-call support is required for application and escalation needs.

  • You have a degree/diploma in Computer Science, Business, and/or a related field.
