Job Description:

The team partners with management and their teams to build greater decision support capability as part of a Group Benefits business analytic centre of excellence. The GB Finance Senior Systems Analyst is accountable for the development, maintenance, and execution of mainframe reporting tools as well as the programming of data extraction and processing jobs necessary to complete analytical, financial and management reporting processes.

The Senior Systems Analyst is responsible for gathering and interpreting business partner’s needs and developing innovative solutions to drive change. The GB Finance Senior Systems Analyst documents existing data flows, jobs and programs currently in use by Finance and Actuarial teams, as well as functions as a gatekeeper for changes made to the mainframe environment that affect the current operations. This role is also responsible for the onboarding and training of new technical employees to the mainframe environment, and for the development and maintenance of its technical documentation. Other accountabilities include first tier technical support for the programs used by GB Finance and Actuarial teams.

What will you do?

  • Provide input as needed on the development of business cases including providing strong data analytics to support business decisions and prioritization

  • Identify and implement process enhancements to increase team efficiency, reduce risk of errors and to improve customer satisfaction

  • Assume an active role in improving current processes or finding innovative new solutions to known problems

  • Maintain up-to-date documentation of all supported applications and standard procedures

  • Work and lead projects with minimal direction of multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously

  • Assist internal clients with various issues related to connectivity, permissions, access

  • Know when to escalate issues and seek guidance when managing competing priorities and peak workload situations

What you need to succeed:

  • Strong abilities in all areas of communication, able to develop end user and technical documentation

  • Good consulting skills and ability to work with internal customers to collect business requirements and conduct feedback cycles on the proposed solution

  • Self-starter with excellent time management skills

  • Excel skills, with a basic understanding of macros

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail and the ability to consistently produce high-quality deliverables

  • Organizational and monitoring skills

Preferred Skills:

  • 3-5 years of experience with Mainframe programming languages (JCL/COBOL/ SAS/FOCUS) an asset

  • Experience with insurance systems with an emphasis on Group Insurance (Genesis, Oasis, Chess, Phoenix, CLAS) an asset

Notes/Unique requirements :

  • As this position is posted in several locations, we specify that bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for Quebec only for the frequent interactions with English and French-speaking colleagues or internal partners across Canada or worldwide

  • As a condition of the role, the successful candidate must obtain a Government of Canada Reliability Status security clearance through Sun Life in advance of the start date

  • Occasional work outside of normal business hours

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
