What you’ll be doing

In this second line of defense risk management role, you will provide oversight over the identification, measurement, mitigation and monitoring of technology risk for a portfolio of domains that will include the following: application delivery, technology infrastructure and operations, cyber security, artificial intelligence, cloud, data management and technology operational resilience.

In this capacity, the Senior Director and their team will work collaboratively with technology and risk partners across the company to ensure oversight of the business portfolio and effective responsiveness to evolving global, regulatory landscape, emerging risks and technologies.

At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. You’ll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you’ll spend 3-5 days per week on-site, while other days will be remote.

How you’ll succeed

  • Provide Independent Oversight and Assessment – Leverage a risk-based approach to understand and manage risk of technology-related activities to ensure alignment to operational risk management policies and framework in alignment with CIBC risk appetite. Ensure that roles and responsibilities for the three lines of defense for technology risk are clear. Review operational practices, risk assessments, controls, issues, metrics, and other relevant information to form an independent view of technology risks. Promote an operational risk culture to ensure consistency and accuracy.

  • Advise on Technology – Maintain an industry view of the broad technology landscape (AI, Cloud, Digital, Big Data & IT service management), understand best practice and performance benchmarks, monitor emerging technology trends and threats and interface with peer networks and thought leaders to continually maintain an independent view of evolving technology risks. Provide guidance on the management of technology risk, including risk mitigation strategies.

  • Build Sustainable Business Relationships: Build and sustain strong internal relationships where you are viewed as a valued partner that offers sound and pragmatic guidance, demonstrates a deep understanding the environment/context and facilitates productive risk discussions and outcomes. You partner to achieve growth targets within clearly defined risk parameters. You maintain a broad network of external relationships with industry peers, associations and thought leaders.

  • Communicate Effectively – Demonstrate clarity of thought in both written and verbal communications. Consistently develop and deliver strong risk reporting content, outcomes, presentations, assessment summaries and other documentation for senior audiences up to and including the Board.

Who you are

  • You can demonstrate experience in technology service management, cyber security, data management, disaster recovery and associated industry frameworks and regulations. It’s an asset if you have strong depth in one or more of IT service management, cloud, application development and big data technology and have previous experience from the finance and/ consulting industry.
