Summary Generated by Built In

Since we opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely, and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take payments and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn't work together.
So we expanded into software and started building integrated, omni-channel solutions - to help sellers sell online, manage inventory, offer buy now, pay later functionality, book appointments, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff. Across it all, we've embedded financial services tools at the point of sale, so merchants can access a business loan and manage their cash flow in one place. Afterpay furthers our goal to provide omnichannel tools that unlock meaningful value and growth, enabling sellers to capture the next generation shopper, increase order sizes, and compete at a larger scale.
Today, we are a partner to sellers of all sizes - large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex operations, sellers just starting, as well as merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. As our sellers grow, so do our solutions. There is a massive opportunity in front of us. We're building a significant, meaningful, and lasting business, and we are helping sellers worldwide do the same.
The Role
The Square Risk team's mission is to safely enable sellers and protect the broader Square ecosystem. The Risk team is responsible for managing all risk types (Fraud, Credit, Disputes, etc) across all Square's products and markets. As the Product Head of Square Risk, you will own the strategy, development, and execution of our diverse set of tools, services, and experiences that safeguard and empower our sellers and Square. These are foundational user experiences and services that enable safe and easy access to Square's products and services. This role will require optimization of current features through customer research, analysis, experimentation, and product validation, as well as the creativity to ideate and build new ones. You will be responsible for the team's vision, strategy, roadmap prioritization, and customer and business impact and will drive high impact initiatives from inception through execution.
You Will

  • Own the ideation, strategy, design, implementation, and improvement of products and infrastructure to help us build trust with our sellers
  • Lead a full stack development team (engineers, designers, researchers, data scientists) to ship innovative and incredible experiences at scale
  • Directly manage product leads and product managers
  • Lead product strategy, customer research, opportunity sizing, planning, scoping, and prioritization to build the highest impact products or improvements that support Square's strategic business priorities
  • Structure and improve our team's processes to enhance execution velocity, making tactical tradeoffs between business priorities and resources
  • Drive effective cross-functional partnership, constantly inspiring and influencing colleagues across operations, policy, machine learning, data, and other product areas to deliver on goals and maximize impact
  • Define the framework and metrics to measure the impact of the team; deeply understand the core drivers and monitor progress
  • Manage the roadmap to deliver on this strategy, balancing short term goals with long term vision.
  • Work with team members distributed across the four US times zones and Europe and Asia Pacific regions.

You Have

  • 15+ years of product management experience with a strong familiarity of platform engineering infrastructure and a proven track record of delivering outstanding products at scale
  • Outstanding leadership skills; the ability to inspire team members and drive collaborative decision-making across geographically dispersed cross-functional teams
  • Incredible business sense and a high degree of comfort with ambiguity, and a knack for quickly ramping on new skills and functions. You excel in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Exceptional prioritization and cross-functional stakeholder management, particularly influencing compliance/legal and external partners in a highly regulated industry
  • Excellent oral and written communication and narrative storytelling skills. You can frame and distill complex information appropriately for different audiences and are comfortable regularly presenting to and guiding Square's most senior leaders.
  • An analytical mindset with the ability to distill and communicate complicated data to make decisions, determine roadmap prioritization, and understand and communicate customer and business impact
  • Exceptional team management and organizational skills. You've built and scaled cross-functional teams and processes.
  • A hunger to tackle complicated and impactful customer and business problems

Preferred:

  • Experience in the fintech or payments industry with demonstrated knowledge of industry best practices
  • Experience in Risk or Risk adjacent areas (Identity, Access, Trust, etc)

Location:

  • US-based, ideally PST timezone. Remote acceptable
