The Role:
Our site in Toronto is seeking a Specialist, New Product Introduction to join our team. In this role, the New Product Introduction Specialist is a key player on a dynamic team responsible for conducting process development work, small scale engineering runs and support of development operations. The ideal candidate is highly capable in the lab, is hands on, and has a high mechanical aptitude. The individual should exhibit the ability to manage multiple activities in a fast-paced environment focused on safety and quality. Ideally the individual is knowledgeable in chemistry, analytical chemistry and chemical engineering. The Specialist partners cross-functionally and communicates across groups to support developmental projects in the Toronto, ON facility.
What You’ll Do:
- Demonstrate safety mindset
- Demonstrate ability to handle complex lab operations
- Design, setup, and implement experiments at bench scale and kilo lab scale
- Prepare and analyze samples using NMR, GC, HPLC and titration methods
- Handle air sensitive materials under nitrogen and vacuum
- Communicate using verbal and written communication skills to deliver technical presentations to a variety of audiences
What We Seek:
- Bachelor/Master of Science degree in synthetic chemistry, chemical engineering, or related fields
- Strong independent operation skills and ability to complete lab work safely
- Experience with handling air-sensitive materials (i.e. using Schlenk lines and anaerobic glove boxes)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experience interpreting analytical results, such as NMR, GC, GC-MS, HPLC, etc
- Determines actions to be taken within the limits of standard or accepted practice
- Knowledge of proper safe handling/disposal of chemicals and ability to maintain a clean and safe workspace
- Ability to advance multiple work tasks simultaneously towards successful and timely outcomes
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities
- Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Prolonged periods of working at the bench/fume hood
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
Outstanding Candidates Will Have:
- 1+ years of experience in the chemical manufacturing industry, particularly with scale-up development desired
- Strong experience with both classic and modern bench-scale organo-metallic chemistry synthetic techniques
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
- Independent and motivated self-learner
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and meticulous documentation habits
- Continuous improvement mindset
