Job Summary:

We’re looking for an experienced Solution Architect to play a key role to the growth and evolution of our platforms that empower hundreds of credit unions and millions of Canadians every day.

What you'll be doing: 

  •  Design solution architectures for multi-tenant, multi-dimensional and complex distributed systems, working closely with Product, Enterprise Architecture, Engineering and DevOPs teams while building these solutions 
  • Create artefacts such as: solution architecture documentation, threat risk assessments, non-functional requirements 
  • Conduct architecture evaluations and trade-off analyses documenting architecture stakeholders and their concerns, with in-depth reviews of costs and benefits, risks, and implications 
  • Regularly conveying key strategies, tasks, and status to internal and external stakeholders 
  • Work closely with Product, Development, QA, and DevOps teams while the solutions are built; reviews solutions recommended by Development teams and DevOps for application change requests, ensuring they meet technical standards and specifications 
  • Work closely with Information Security and Risk teams to evaluate the risk profile of the project 
  • Align the solution architectures and technical approaches across the engineering organization; maintain the solution architecture and a roadmap for projects that evolve toward the target  
  • Ensure the proposed architecture for the solutions are aligned with the Central 1 Enterprise Architecture standards and guidelines, and external regulatory bodies 
  • You will interact with senior technical representatives of our clients to foster understanding of Central 1’s platforms architecture and drive integrations 
  • Coach, mentor, and enable developers, testers, and DevOps regarding the resolution of complex technical matters, new technologies, and best practices 
  • You will be designing solutions in Sparx Enterprise Architect, based on Java, REST APIs, Spring framework and cloud technologies (AWS and Azure), as well as MuleSoft API Management Platform  

What you'll have: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, M. Sc. preferred 
  • 10+ years of engineering experience supporting and building systems that have very demanding performance requirements, with large data and compute loads 
  • 5+ years of working as a Solutions Architect or equivalent technical leadership experience
  • Attentive to details and result-oriented and customer-focused  
  • Handle multiple projects at a time, balance and prioritize the workloads, operate independently on a day-to-day basis  
  • Proven experience as a solution architect in the financial industry designing API centric solutions 
  • Knowledge of the banking host systems 
  • Knowledge of banking standards, e.g. BIAN, FDX , ISO20022
  • Experience with migration of monolithic applications to microservices: designing roadmaps towards target state 
  • Strong experience with SaaS platforms that run on a multi-tenant architecture 
  • Strong experience working on Infrastructure centric platforms both on prem and cloud 
  • Able to build a sense of trust and rapport that creates a comfortable & effective workplace
  • Excellent communication, influencing, and facilitation skills, in particular problem solving/troubleshooting activities   
  • Brings a high-energy and passionate outlook to the job and can influence those around them, "can do" attitude  
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and guide development teams 
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across the organization, including Product, Design, Operations, Sales, Marketing, and Customer Success 
  • Adds personal value: Drives the business to deliver results, looks to exceed client expectations 

 

What you'll know: 

  • Deep knowledge and understanding of architecture patterns - especially the microservice architecture patterns, and domain driven design 
  • Strong Java and Spring framework knowledge 
  • Developed a breadth of technical knowledge and depth in infrastructure, software architecture, databases (SQL and No-SQL), and agile product development  
  • Good understanding and working knowledge of the server and network configurations both for deployment and at run-time 
  • Understanding network topologies and common network protocols and services (DNS, HTTP(S), SSH, FTP, SMTP). 
  • Knowledge on Authentication and Authorization technology best practices 
  • Strong knowledge on Authentication Protocols: SAML 2, OIDC, OAUTH 2, authentication factors 
  • Strong knowledge on Security: PKI, security keys 
  • Strong knowledge in Cloud Development: Azure and AWS preferred
  • Knowledge on general web site attacking scenarios 
  • Understand SMS, Push Notification, and Email delivery 
  • Good understanding of native mobile app architecture and technologies
  • Good understanding of single page applications architecture and technologies 
  • Experience and knowledge using Sparx Enterprise Architect (or equivalent software) to document architecture solutions, leveraging common industry standards: Unified Modeling Language (UML), BPMN, E/R 

Salary Range: $130,700 - 150,000
 

The salary range represents the job rate determined for the successful candidate who is fully competent in the role. The actual salary will vary depending on market conditions and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training.
