Software Engineering Manager, Platforms Networking & Edge

 

This role will sit in our Toronto office and will comply with our hybrid work policy (3 days/week). 

Who We Are
Wayfair runs the largest custom e-commerce large parcel network in the United States, approximately 1.6 million square meters of logistics space. The nature of the network is inherently a highly variable ecosystem that requires flexible, reliable, and resilient systems to operate efficiently. 

We are looking for a passionate Platform Engineering Manager to lead the Networking & Edge team at Wayfair. This team is responsible for everything that is necessary to successfully run a global e-commerce company leveraging cloud native solutions to drive content delivery and network communication for internal employees and customers. This team is responsible for Wayfair’s network edge which includes our CDN as well as multi-region network communication and threat protection. As part of our team, you will be solving complex problems that have a direct impact on production infrastructure that powers all of Wayfair’s business. 


What You’ll Do

  • Lead a team of extremely talented platform engineers to help maintain and scale the current and future state services platform at Wayfair
  • Help support our top priority - migrate k8s workloads to a modern GKE enterprise fleet that requires robust network infrastructure and architecture
  • Help architect and develop the future state networking and content delivery platform by leveraging industry best practices as well as embracing new technologies to support the future growth of Wayfair as a business
  • Help influence the product roadmaps of GCP (our primary cloud provider) to better suit Wayfair’s future state architecture
  • Work collaboratively with business and technical stakeholders to develop and architect enhancements to the compute platform capabilities that enable them to develop and iterate applications to power the Wayfair business
  • Identify opportunities to introduce automation, improvements to avoid repetitive operational tasks (DRY)

What You’ll Need

  • 10+ years of experience in platform engineering/sre roles using an object oriented language (Python, Golang, etc)
  • Experience with Networking
  • Experience implementing cloud native features with a focus on developer self-service to drive high engineering velocity
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience working with IaC (Terraform, Pulumi, etc)
  • Experience working within a Public Cloud environment (GCP, AWS, Azure, etc)
  • Experience working with Kubernetes in a public cloud (GKE, EKS, AKS, etc)
  • Experience working with CI/CD tools such as Argo, Buildkite, TravisCI, Jenkins, Spinnaker, etc
  • Experience working with platform observability tools (Prometheus, Thanos, Grafana, Fluentbit, Cloud Monitoring, Google Cloud Logging, Datadog, Pagerduty, Cloudwatch, Kibana, Elastic Search, Splunk,  VictorOps, etc)
  • Experience and desire to work in an agile environment
  • Analytical mindset and passion for solving business problems with technology


Nice to Haves:

  • Experience working with Istio/Service Mesh
  • Experience working with Dev Testing tools and patterns such as Garden, Flagger, Canary Deployments, Blue/Green Testing, A/B Testing
  • Experience setting up and working with Kubernetes Admission Control (Kyverno, OPA, etc)
  • Experience working with workload scaling (HPA, VPA, Capacity Planning/Reservations, etc)
