Guidewire’s development team is looking for a smart, proactive, and results-oriented Software Engineer to build elegant solutions for the property & casualty insurance industry’s complex business domain and make our industry-leading products even better. The team is looking for an enthusiastic engineer who is passionate about building high-quality software with a great team and improving the customer experience for millions of people who use our products every day.
As part of PDO’s shift toward AI-driven development, you will use AI-native coding approaches and AI-assisted tools (such as Claude Code or GitHub Copilot) to build, refactor, and extend our services quickly and safely while maintaining high engineering standards, tests, and observability. Your work will support PDO’s mission to embed GenAI across our products, improve operational excellence, and deliver secure, reliable, and scalable cloud services at scale.

Job Description

Successful software engineers at Guidewire typically have:

• A desire to work collaboratively in an empowered, small, cross-functional team
• Experience working in an agile and fast-paced development environment (e.g. TDD, BDD, Agile, pair programming, etc.)
• A passion for code quality demonstrated by thorough testing
• A desire to be hands-on in designing and writing code
• A demonstrated ability to embrace AI and apply it to their role, alongside data-driven insights, to drive innovation, productivity, and continuous improvement
• Curiosity and internal motivation to constantly improve
• Ability to learn quickly in a dynamic environment

• Excellent communication skills, comfort level to speak their mind and defend ideas based on merit, yet humility and hunger to learn from others

Key qualifications include experience with:

Demonstrated ability to embrace AI and apply it to your current role as well as data-driven insights to drive innovation, productivity, and continuous improvement.

• Minimum 0 - 2+ years of Software Development experience, preferably in SaaS or cloud solutions
• Proficiency in Core Java, and good working knowledge of the Spring framework
• Experience with JavaScript, TypeScript, or Python
• Experience building microservices on cloud service platforms (e.g. AWS/GCP/Azure) – AWS preferred
• Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker and Kubernetes)
• Experience designing REST or gRPC based APIs
• Ability to use AI-assisted coding tools (e.g. Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) to accelerate development while exercising strong judgment around code quality, testing, and security
• Good understanding of Object-Oriented Design principles
• Understanding of relational database persistence (e.g. MySQL, Oracle); familiarity with NoSQL databases (e.g. MongoDB, CouchDB) is a plus
• Great understanding of CI/CD and DevOps principles; experience with related tools such as TeamCity, Git-based workflows, or Kubernetes is a definite plus
• Experience with LLMs, LangChain, and/or AI patterns such as RAG or ReAct is a plus
• Exposure to AI/ML development patterns such as prompt engineering or integrating AI services into production systems is a plus
• BS/MS degree (Computer Science or related field)

The Canadian CAD base salary range for this full-time position is $70,000 - $88,000. Your base pay will depend on your experience, skills, education, training, and location among other factors. All full-time positions or part-time roles working 30 hours or more a week at Guidewire are eligible for benefits that support their health and well-being including health, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, and a company sponsored retirement plan. In addition, some roles may be eligible for the annual company bonus plan, commissions, and/or long term incentive awards which are contingent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, company and employee performance.
