Hi, we're The Browser Company 👋 and we're building a better way to use the internet.
Browsers are unique in that they are one of the only pieces of software that you share with your parents as well as your kids. Which makes sense, they're our doorway to the most important things — through them we socialize with loved ones, work on our passion projects, and explore our curiosities. But on their own, they don’t actually do a whole lot, they’re kind of just there. They don’t help us organize our messy lives or make it easier to compose our ideas. We believe that the browser could do so much more — it can empower and support the amazing things we do on the internet. That’s why we’re building one: a browser that can help us grow, create, and stay curious.
To accomplish this lofty task, we’re building a diverse team of people from different backgrounds and experiences. This isn’t optional, it’s crucial to our mission, as we need a wide range of perspectives to challenge our assumptions and shape our browser through a bold, creative lens. With that in mind, we especially encourage women, people of color, and others from historically marginalized groups to apply.

About The Role

As a Services Engineer at The Browser Company, you’ll build the server-side backbone that makes Dia’s AI feel native to the browser—fast, trustworthy, and useful for real work. You’ll design and operate services that orchestrate complex AI execution flows, securely integrate with enterprise systems, and deliver low-latency experiences that teams rely on every day.

You’ll own services where the stakes are high: identity and access controls, policy enforcement, data privacy boundaries, and auditability. That means building with secure-by-default patterns (least privilege, strong isolation, defense-in-depth) and meeting enterprise expectations for reliability, observability, and incident response. Your work will turn novel AI-in-the-browser ideas into production-grade capabilities—bridging Dia’s client experience with cloud services that are safe for individuals and compliant for enterprises.

Overall you will...
  • Design and operate the services that make Dia’s AI feel native to the browser—coordinating multi-model execution, keeping latency low, and delivering results that teams can trust.

  • Build secure-by-default architecture: strong isolation, least privilege, fine‑grained authZ/authN, tenant-aware data boundaries, and auditable controls that meet enterprise expectations.

  • Implement org- and account-level guardrails (usage limits, retention policies, policy enforcement) and wire them into identity, billing, and admin surfaces.

  • Bridge BCNY services with Atlassian platforms and partner systems.

  • Ship reliability at scale: robust queues/workers, backpressure, retries, circuit breakers, and steady SLOs with deep observability (metrics, tracing, logging).

  • Measure and improve: build dashboards and alerts, run incident reviews, and tune systems for performance, cost, and resilience.

  • Protect privacy end‑to‑end: minimize data collection, control exposure to AI models, and enforce lifecycle policies that keep user and enterprise data safe.

  • Participate in the Services on‑call rotation and lead incident response when needed

Qualifications
  • 5+ years designing, building, and operating cloud services (GCP/AWS/Azure) with high availability and low latency.

  • Strong backend programming skills in Go, TypeScript, Swift, or Python; comfortable owning production services end‑to‑end.

  • Security‑first mindset: least‑privilege access, strong isolation, encryption in transit/at rest, and auditable controls.

  • Experience with identity and policy enforcement (authN/authZ, org/account guardrails, quotas, retention).

  • Proven reliability practices: SLOs, incident response/on‑call, observability (metrics, logs, traces), and post‑mortems.

  • Track record integrating with third‑party platforms and partner APIs using safe contracts and resilient pipelines.

  • Excellent cross‑functional communication—able to align with Product, Infra, Security, and Ops to ship quickly and safely.

  • You resonate with our company values.

  • You’re pragmatic, motivated by nebulous problems, and excited to work in a startup environment with quick product validation cycles.

  • Most of our team are based in North American time zones and require that folks have 4+ hours of overlap time with team members in Eastern Time Zone.

Compensation and Benefits
  • Our total compensation package for full-time employees includes base salary, equity, and benefits. The annual salary range for this role is $225,000-$275,000 USD. The actual salary offered will vary based on experience level and interview performance.

  • Benefits: We also offer a wide range of perks and benefits designed to support you, your family and to help you engage with your local community. To learn more, visit go.atlassian.com/perksandbenefits.

  • Location: We’re a remote-friendly company and can hire in any country where Atlassian has a legal entity. If you live in New York (or want to visit), you’re welcome to work from our beautiful office in Williamsburg.

The Browser Company is an ambitious team of close to 100 people (and growing!) who are passionate about building great products. We are a remote-first, distributed team, with the option to work from office in Brooklyn, New York. We strongly support diversity and encourage people from all backgrounds to apply.
