The summary above was generated by AI

Since we opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely, and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take payments and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn't work together.
So we expanded into software and started building integrated, omnichannel solutions - to help sellers sell online, manage inventory, offer buy now, pay later functionality, book appointments, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff. Across it all, we've embedded financial services tools at the point of sale, so merchants can access a business loan and manage their cash flow in one place. Afterpay furthers our goal to provide omnichannel tools that unlock meaningful value and growth, enabling sellers to capture the next generation shopper, increase order sizes, and compete at a larger scale.
Today, we are a partner to sellers of all sizes - large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex operations, sellers just starting, as well as merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. As our sellers grow, so do our solutions. There is a massive opportunity in front of us. We're building a significant, meaningful, and lasting business, and we are helping sellers worldwide do the same.
The Role
Risk Engineering works to protect Square and our customers $200B+ in annual payments processed across 4B sales transactions from fraud and disputes. It also acts as a trusted partner in preventing fraud globally.
The Scams team focuses on fraudsters using Square services to further scams. On this team you will build systems to protect the reputation of Square and its sellers, detect and address fraudulent accounts, and improve the impact of controls on Square sellers. Your work will be in collaboration with partners spanning Risk functions and key infrastructure across Square and will primarily involve working with backend services at scale.
You Will

  • Collaborate to create and evolve fraud fighting frameworks usable by all Square products.
  • Build and maintain fault-tolerant systems to promote rapid iteration and improvement while keeping sellers and Square services safe.
  • Follow with guidance engineering and technical operations best practices for security, privacy, and reliability
  • Work with a globally distributed team of data scientists, engineers, and risk experts to develop new solutions and improve existing processes addressing fraud

You Have

  • BS/BA degree or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of professional software development experience covering the SDLC
  • Experience building products end to end with other experienced engineers- creating engineering designs, building the code, writing tests, deploying changes, and support.
  • Enthusiasm for building, operating, and debugging large-scale distributed systems.
  • Data-oriented mindset: you want your work to be measured and impactful.
