Lead frontend development for Lyft's mapping experiences, focusing on usability and performance while mentoring junior engineers and driving operational excellence.

At Lyft, our purpose is to serve and connect. To accomplish this, we start with our community by creating an open, inclusive, and diverse organization. Our mission depends on having a digital representation of the physical world - a map with all routing related (real-time) information. This is what makes Lyft different from many products: our products don’t just facilitate online interactions, they facilitate dynamic, real-world ones. Without mapping services, none of these real world interactions between people and transport can happen.

The Mapping organization at Lyft has spent the last few years building up Lyft’s mapping assets and capabilities by combining many internal and external data sources and services into an increasingly powerful and mission-critical technology stack. In doing so, we’ve also enabled new user experiences and features across all of Lyft’s products, including rideshare industry leading firsts like CarPlay, Android Auto, and real-time driver feedback!

We are hiring a Frontend Software Engineer to join our Mapping experiences team that crafts next generation operational, debugging, analytical and tasking platforms. This role is ideal for someone who cares deeply about frontend architecture, building delightful user experiences, and developer ergonomics, while still enjoying full-stack ownership and system-level thinking.

In this role, you'll collaborate with engineering, product, data science, analytics, and operations on programs that empower us to iterate quickly, enabling our stakeholders with swift and robust solutions.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the design and development of modern, modular debugging and analytical platform,  frontend experiences across the company, including Advertiser-facing, Marketplace, Safety and Customer care, with a strong focus on usability, performance, accessibility, and maintainability
  • Own full-stack features end-to-end, collaborating closely with product managers, designers, and data partners to translate complex requirements into intuitive workflows
  • Set frontend engineering standards and architecture, influencing patterns, tooling, testing strategy, and long-term technical direction across the team
  • Mentor and support mid-level and junior engineers, providing thoughtful code reviews, technical guidance, and career growth support
  • Drive operational excellence, helping automate workflows, reduce manual effort, and improve the efficiency, reliability and scalability of multiple versatile management systems
Experience:
  • BSc/MSc in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of industry experience in frontend or full-stack engineering roles, with a demonstrated emphasis on frontend development.
  • Proven experience building modern, production-grade frontend applications, and component architectures, ideally using React and TypeScript.
  • Experience designing and consuming APIs (REST, GraphQL, gRPC) and collaborating closely with backend services.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, evolving environment, balancing technical excellence with delivery.
  • Experience building or contributing to cloud-based systems (AWS) and collaborating within CI/CD and DevOps-enabled teams.
  • It would be a huge plus to have:
    • Experience with MobX, mapbox/maplibre, deck.gl, visx
    • Hands-on backend expertise
    • Working knowledge of AI/ML/GenAI technologies and technique and apply them
    • Fluency in SQL and python, familiarity with tools like JupyterLab and Mode
Benefits:
  • Extended health and dental coverage options, along with life insurance and disability benefits
  • Mental health benefits
  • Family building benefits
  • Child care and pet benefits
  • Access to a Lyft funded Health Care Savings Account
  • RRSP plan to help save for your future
  • In addition to provincial observed holidays, salaried team members are covered under Lyft's flexible paid time off policy. The policy allows team members to take off as much time as they need (with manager approval). Hourly team members get 15 days paid time off, with an additional day for each year of service
  • Lyft is proud to support new parents with 18 weeks of paid time off, designed as a top-up plan to complement provincial programs. Biological, adoptive, and foster parents are all eligible.
  • Subsidized commuter benefits
