Coris is building foundational AI infrastructure for merchant risk and operations.
We help software platforms, fintechs, and payment providers onboard, underwrite, and monitor merchants more efficiently — turning what used to take days into workflows that run in seconds. Our unified platform combines rich data and AI agents to automate risk decisions at scale.
We’re growing quickly, with strong customer pull and adoption globally. The category is being defined in real time, and the opportunity in front of us is massive. If you're excited by speed, ownership, and building at the frontier of AI and risk infrastructure, we'd love to talk.
We’re backed by Y Combinator, Lux Capital, Pathlight Ventures, and other top investors.
About the RoleWe’re hiring a Backend Software Engineer to help build the core systems that power Coris’ AI-native risk platform.
You’ll focus primarily on backend architecture: designing data models, APIs, workflows, and services that ingest large volumes of data, support real-time decisioning, and scale with our customers. Your work will directly impact how platforms onboard, underwrite, and monitor merchants safely and efficiently.
You’ll work closely with founders, customers, and deployed risk strategists to translate complex risk and operational problems into robust, scalable systems.
This role is based in Palo Alto, CA, with a hybrid schedule (3 days/week in office).
What You’ll DoDesign and ship backend-first features, including APIs, data models, background jobs, and internal services
Build and evolve systems that support AI-driven risk workflows, large datasets, and time-sensitive decisions
Architect secure, reliable, and scalable infrastructure for fintech and payments use cases
Own features end-to-end — from schema design and business logic through production rollout and iteration
Partner closely with customers and internal teams to deeply understand real-world constraints and edge cases
Help shape Coris’ engineering standards, patterns, and culture at an early stage
Have 3–7+ years of experience building backend systems in production environments
Are highly proficient in Python and frameworks like Django (or similar)
Have strong experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL), including schema design, performance, and migrations
Are comfortable designing APIs and data contracts that scale and evolve over time
Think carefully about performance, correctness, and security, especially in financial or risk-sensitive systems
Are AI-native in your workflow — you use tools like Cursor, Claude, or GPT copilots to move faster and reason better
Communicate clearly and operate with high ownership, low ego, and a bias toward action
