At Scribd (pronounced “scribbed”), our mission is to spark human curiosity. Join our team as we create a world of stories and knowledge, democratize the exchange of ideas and information, and empower collective expertise through our three products: Everand, Scribd, and Slideshare.

We support a culture where our employees can be real and be bold; where we debate and commit as we embrace plot twists; and where every employee is empowered to take action as we prioritize the customer.

We’re looking for an experienced and strategic UX writer to join our product team on a part-time contract basis, approximately 15-20 hours per week. This role offers flexibility to manage your own schedule and the potential for growth into a full-time position.

As the sole UX writer, you’ll play a critical role in bringing our three brands’ voices to life across our products, crafting compelling and clear copy that resonates with our users. You’ll collaborate closely with designers, researchers, and our brand copywriter to ensure a seamless and delightful experience for our customers across all touchpoints.

This is an exciting opportunity to have a foundational impact on our products and their ability to empower millions of users worldwide.

What You'll Do:

  • Translate voice and tone into the UI: Ensure our three brands are consistently reflected in the microcopy and messaging, speaking to the unique audiences on each product (Everand, Scribd, and SlideShare).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams: Partner with product designers, researchers, product managers, engineers, and our brand team to create user-focused copy for interfaces, error messages, tooltips, onboarding, and more.
  • Iterate and improve: Continuously test and refine your work based on regular stakeholder feedback, user insights and usability testing, and performance metrics.
  • Advocate for users: Leverage user research, data, and empathy to craft copy that improves usability, accessibility, and clarity.
  • Define the process: Develop and implement best practices and workflows for integrating UX writing into the product development lifecycle, ensuring efficiency and alignment across teams.

What We're Looking For:

  • Experience: 5+ years of professional UX writing experience with a strong portfolio showcasing your work. You also have proven expertise in adapting and carrying voice across various platforms to effectively connect with different audiences for a B2C product. Past experience working with an in-house product team is a plus.
  • Collaboration: You thrive in cross-functional teams and are comfortable synthesizing multiple points of view and aligning stakeholders across copy handoff points.
  • Customer centricity: You put users at the center of everything you create and are passionate about improving their experiences.
  • Attention to detail: You’re meticulous, with a strong grasp of English grammar, style, and UX writing best practices.
  • Tool proficiency: Experience with UX tools (e.g. Figma), usability testing (e.g. usertesing.com), and A/B testing platforms are a plus.

Who You Are:

  • You are excited by the challenge of iterating on and improving the user experience across three brands, leveraging established voice and tone guidelines to innovate on familiar patterns.
  • You’re a strong communicator who can present complex ideas clearly and persuasively, energizing teams and creating shared ownership for your work among leaders and peers.
  • You are fluent in UX writing best practices and have a strong knowledge of usability fundamentals and methodologies.
  • You maintain a high bar for writing quality and coherence, ensuring your work scales effectively to meet broad user needs. Your portfolio showcases a keen eye for detail and a commitment to delivering clear, engaging user experiences.
  • You lead with curiosity and are comfortable navigating ambiguity. You thrive in fast-paced environments that require adaptive problem-solving skills.

Why Join Us?

  • Flexibility: This part-time contract role offers remote work and the ability to manage your own schedule, making it ideal for work-life balance.
  • Impact: Play a foundational role in shaping the user experience for millions of users worldwide.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with partners from design, research, product, and marketing to create meaningful products.
  • Growth: Contribute to UX writing at Scribd, SlideShare, and Everand, with opportunities to deliver impactful work and expand your portfolio. While this is a contract position, it has the potential to convert to full-time, giving you a chance to grow your impact and career at Scribd.
  • Culture: Join a supportive and inclusive company that values creativity, curiosity, and continuous learning for all of our team members.
  • We need your expertise: This description might give away that we don’t have a writer on our team. Your skills will help us elevate the user experience across all our products—and maybe even improve job descriptions like this one (Not really, though. You’ll be working on way cooler projects than job descriptions).

  • At Scribd, you won’t just be joining a team; you’ll contribute to a culture that embraces innovation, creativity, and diversity. Together, we'll redefine the future of digital reading and discovery. Let’s build something that makes a lasting, positive impact on the world of content consumption.
