As a technical product manager for AI Office within the Direct Platform Service team, you will lead the development and innovation of GenAI infrastructure and capabilities that empower several Morningstar flagship products. Your work will leverage technologies such as entity detection, insights extraction, vector DB, MCP, and AI Agents to create new tools and capabilities for products to integrate and eliminate frictions for investment analysts, asset managers, advisors and wealth managers in completing a diverse range of workflows in investment search and research, product development and distribution, and financial advisory services.
You will also be a bridge between the AI Office and various product development teams across the company, engaging to understand their roadmaps, requirements, use cases, in order to ensure that the AI Office capabilities support their key AI initiatives. This role requires a strong understanding of technical concepts related to platform development and GenAI technologies.
This position is based in our Toronto office. We follow a hybrid policy of at least 4 days onsite.

Responsibilities:
- Product Strategy and Technical Roadmap: Define and execute the product strategy for the AI Platform, ensuring alignment with Direct Platform's business goals and Morningstar's enterprise initiatives.
- Technical Leadership: Work closely with engineering teams to design and implement cutting-edge AI infrastructure and a set of foundational (product agnostic) services, and drive R&D vs platform development vs build/buy decisions to broaden GenAI adoption.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with data specialists and investment analysts, engineering, and products teams to integrate advanced GenAI technologies into Morningstar's ecosystem.
- Market and Industry Analysis: Research industry advancements including LLM technologies, data sciences, investment product landscape, financial regulations, and best practices in investment management and financial advisory.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Effectively communicate technical concepts and product vision to leadership, products (within Direct Platform and across Morningstar), and cross-functional teams to drive alignment and adoption.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years in product management or platform product management, with a focus on data processing.
- Technical Expertise: Understanding technical requirements around products build using REST APIs, LLMs, Vector DB, RAG, MCP; and experience of consuming/integrating GenAI services powered by one or more modern LLMs
- Investment Knowledge: Familiarity with fundamental investing concepts e.g., funds vs equity, asset allocation and portfolio construction, and investment risk.
- Communication Skills: Ability to bridge technical and business discussions, translating complex technical concepts into clear business impact.
Preferred Qualifications
- Product building experience in a fin-tech space
- Knowledge of and appreciation for Morningstar data
