Geotab is seeking a Senior Team Lead, Embedded Development who will lead and grow the Embedded HIL Development team within Geotab’s Automotive department. The HIL team’s responsibility is to support all our Embedded Geotab devices, which includes the current and future generations of GO Devices, IOX Devices, Go Focus, GO Anywhere and more. What you'll do:
The Senior Team Lead, Embedded Development is responsible for leading and developing a high-performing embedded software team. This includes driving the technical strategy and roadmap for embedded products, ensuring the vision, strategy, and execution to support company objectives. A key focus is on People Leadership & Development, encompassing direct staff management, mentorship, and collaboration with other Geotab leaders and stakeholders. Additionally, this role is accountable for SW Execution & Quality Excellence, maintaining high standards of code quality, and ensuring on-time delivery of software releases. This team's core focus is to design and develop HIL platforms to support early exposure, validation and testing of our SW before release to the customer. The team’s responsibility also includes automation and CI support to support SW releases. This position will work closely with colleagues within the Automotive department, as well as Solutions Engineering, Software Development, Engineering Support, and key leadership stakeholders.

Technical Strategy & Roadmap - Lead the vision, strategy and process for the development team to support our Embedded Products, including design, development and deployment of our software.

People Leadership & Development - Oversee the activities and performance of direct reports:

Provide direction, coaching and mentorship to the team.

Engage in the development of the team by coaching, providing feedback, identifying areas of growth and training opportunities.

Collaborate and support employees during the performance management process, meeting KPAs and career development planning.

Establish clear communication and organize your team effectively via regular touch points such as stand-ups, retrospectives, and planning sessions to prioritize development activity, ensure open lines of communication,and encourage discussion within the team to drive improvements in quality and velocity of execution.

SW Execution & Quality Excellence - Ensure a high bar for SW development and coding standards from the team to ensure maintainability, scalability and readability of the code.

Provide technical guidance and problem - solving support for complex engineering challenges related to embedded systems and the evolution of Geotab’s embedded platform architecture.

Drive the development of innovative solutions and technologies to ensure optimal performance and compliance with regulatory requirements.

Work closely with other engineering teams, product management, and external partners to align project goals, share knowledge, and drive the successful execution of initiatives.

Implement and maintain quality control processes to ensure that software features and systems meet or exceed industry standards and customer expectations.

Identify and promote opportunities for process improvements, efficiency gains, and technological advancements.

Prepare and present regular reports, technical documentation, and presentations to senior management and stakeholders.
What you'll bring to the role

5 - 8 years of required experience in Embedded Development using C.

3 - 5 years of people leadership experience in Embedded Development.

3 - 5 years of required previous experience in Embedded Systems, RTOS, Linux and Automotive.

3 - 5 years of experience with Cloud Platforms, CI/CD, Automation.
-
3 - 5 years of experience using DBs, SQL is highly valued.
-
3 - 5 years of experience with IoT devices, sensors, wireless communication, and data transport protocols (USB, NFC, BLE, CAN) are highly valued.

3 - 5 years of experience with Kanban, SCRUM and Agile development practices is highly valued.

Embedded C Expertise.

Embedded RTOS or Linux Systems Expertise.

People leadership experience in a team-oriented workplace.

High accuracy and meticulous attention to detail.

Highly organized and able to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including comfort with delivering presentations and training.

A strong collaborator with the ability to engage with all levels of the organization.

Technical competence using software programs, including, but not limited to, Google Suite for business (Sheets, Docs, Slides).
