About the role

Senior System Engineer - Systems Performance Team The Systems Performance team is part of the Computing Squad (Foundation / Runtime Platforms). You will be part of a team focused on building deep diagnostic tools and performing high-level analysis to reduce latency, infrastructure costs, and increase services efficiency. You will execute performance investigations and identify systemic bottlenecks across one of the largest JVM-based microservice architectures in the world, interacting with everything from the Linux Kernel to cloud-wide orchestration.

You will be responsible for
  • Performance Investigation: Identify systemic bottlenecks and efficiency opportunities across a massive microservice architecture.
  • Innovative Solutions: Develop and deliver technical solutions that address complex challenges with a focus on medium and long-term impact.
  • System Optimization: Deep dive into the technical aspects, capabilities, and limitations of our systems to drive continuous improvements.
  • Root Cause Analysis: Perform high-level analysis to identify and resolve the root causes of performance issues.
  • Proactive Design: Anticipate technical and product issues, making design decisions to prevent future bottlenecks.
  • Mentorship & Collaboration: Share knowledge and mentor others, ensuring a high standard of quality and teamwork.

We are looking for a person who has

  • Cloud Expertise: Experience and knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS).
  • Production Environment: Background working with critical, high-availability services.
  • JVM & Internals: Deep interest in understanding service internals, JVM architecture, and performance characteristics.
  • OS Fundamentals: Knowledge of operating systems (scheduling, memory management, I/O) is a strong plus.
  • Analytical Thinking: Passion for performance tuning, capacity planning, and finding creative ways to improve system efficiency.
  • Cultural Alignment: Enthusiasm for ownership, simplicity, and a "veracity-first" approach to problem-solving.

Work Model for this Role

Nubank operates in a hybrid model, where teams collaborate remotely and periodically come together for about one week of in-person sessions. For Canadian team members, these sessions typically take place in one of our hubs (Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, or the United States) and are communicated well in advance to allow proper planning, with travel support provided to ensure equitable access to these global collaboration opportunities.
