Since we opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely, and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take payments and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn't work together.
So we expanded into software and started building integrated, omnichannel solutions - to help sellers sell online, manage inventory, offer buy now, pay later functionality, book appointments, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff. Across it all, we've embedded financial services tools at the point of sale, so merchants can access a business loan and manage their cash flow in one place. Afterpay furthers our goal to provide omnichannel tools that unlock meaningful value and growth, enabling sellers to capture the next generation shopper, increase order sizes, and compete at a larger scale.
Today, we are a partner to sellers of all sizes - large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex operations, sellers just starting, as well as merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. As our sellers grow, so do our solutions. There is a massive opportunity in front of us. We're building a significant, meaningful, and lasting business, and we are helping sellers worldwide do the same.
The Role
The Checkout Applet Mobile team serves new and existing users of the Square Point of Sale (SPOS) engine. Our mission is to streamline the cart-building flows to ensure a seamless and powerful experience for our merchants. The team owns the Checkout applet, which is the most frequently used and critical surface area in our POS apps, allowing sellers to create orders and start the payment flow for them.
As a Staff iOS Engineer on the Checkout Applet Mobile team, you will support the team's work in converging key checkout applets across multiple engines. You'll work with cross-functional teams to ensure our applications are scalable, maintainable, and capable of meeting the diverse needs of our merchants. Additionally, you will continue to improve the onboarding experience within SuperPOS while also building solutions for upgrading existing sellers to better engines when relevant. You'll xfhelp enhance the performance and reliability of our iOS solutions, directly impacting millions of users worldwide.
You Will

  • Architect and improve the iOS codebase to support diverse checkout needs within a single POS engine.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers across teams to deliver high-quality, scalable features.
  • Lead efforts to converge the checkout applet across different engines, streamlining technical and product solutions.
  • Champion best practices in iOS development, ensuring code quality, performance, and maintainability.
  • Provide technical mentorship and guidance to engineers, fostering a culture of learning and innovation.
  • Identify and drive improvements in our iOS development processes and tools, contributing to the technical roadmap of the team.

You Have

  • 12+ years of iOS development experience with deep expertise in Swift and Objective-C.
  • Proven experience in architecting and leading complex iOS projects at scale.
  • Strong collaboration skills, with experience working across teams and functions to deliver cohesive, user-focused solutions.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and leading by influence.
